I'm going to have to try that on a 90-something Rockhopper I've dismantled.

Bikes: More than the people who ride them...oy.

Unfortunately there is rust at the joint-ment areas and peeling paint, so I would have to be pretty liberal with a matching turquoise.

So I will be stripping this one down. It’s a nice color, but not Celeste or the better Rose Pearl these came in…then I would do more to save it.

My vote will always be the gun blued raw finish. Never worry about another scratch ever again, and you get to see all that glitzy brazing peeking out from the joints...

This is true! Or I can paint it the color of metal…and if it scratches you see…Metal.

I actually have a few eye catching paint schemes flowing in my brain at the moment…and by eye catching it means you wish you had never seen it…like the Colnecko!

I dig this and am so happy for you! I had one of these I bought new c.1990 as unsold clearance and truly regret parting with mine - but selling it let me buy a c.1931 Gibson L-4 with a round sound hole (which I also regret parting with!).. I see may old Volpe around town every couple of years. ... You will have fun with this one when it's complete!

And a few from the hound who lost a battle with CA earlier this year. I trust this venture is a bit of rehab after a pretty long year of setbacks and losses. Smiles, MH

Sharp eye, MH! Also a deviation from the backyard projects for once!

Hmm. Don’t have that one on the short list but I can see some possible combinations…even some that might offend the eye!

on the other hand, the evaporust bath Viola is getting right now is doing better than I thought. The surface area of dings is pretty significant so nail polish won’t do. Plus, that shade turquoise is tough to match.

(I also thought of finding the electric cobalt blue my Randonneur was, but that might be too much for my heart).

How are you getting the hard to reach places? Just dunking certain sections in a tub of the stuff? I agree it is cleaning up pretty well.

EDIT: nevermind, saw your tub photo. Smart filling in the extra space w/ bottles and such!

You said turquoise was tough to match, and you are correct. I had that Novara Randonee that I spent hours try to match the paint on, only to find out what I though was close wasn't close at all!

I doubt I will save the paint at this point. More rippling than I thought. The important thing is that the interior rust has been neutralized.

…once I chip away the loose paint the unpainted areas, it will look even poopier.

As for the item displacement in the Evaporust I thought about using gravel in zip locks as a better idea.

wondering out loud regarding submersing a frame-
most seat stays and bridges have one drain hole at best.
how is flushing of those internal regions effected?

As far as I know, it is all squirting out and then if there is residue left, it’s Evaporust!

But I then shoot a little WD 40 in there and then a rust repeller.

Better method of raising level

I have to de-rust the bottom and top tube area of the AD before attempting to do a miracle match job of saving the paint.

I think gravel in zip locks is easier than emptying the cupboard….

This Binachi after the de-rusting process, needs a ghetto camouflage paint job ie: a multicolor random paint scheme that covers all of the bike's identifying markings. Nothing like a good paint job that shows the quality of the build and design work that went into it. JMHO, MH

Based on my ideas for paint, that could easily be done…and would enhance it!

It will be interesting. Good, not likely. Not Colnecko level “interesting” however.
