Very nice ! I looked for a 753 Peugeot for quite a while some years ago and couldn't find one. Now I have a 531 Pro instead so that'll do but the 753 is an apex predator.

Bikes: 1984 Gitane TdF, 1983 Colnago Super, 1986 Look Équipe, 1981 Gios Torino SR, 1988 Peugeot Chorus, 1988 Peugeot Biarritz, 1986 Bertin SC37

My 1988 Peugeot Chorus is probably my best bike. It is spaced for 126mm at the back, and I'm running a 7-speed freewheel. Geared 50/39 & 13-28. Is yours wider? It looks like you have a good-sized cassette.

lovely bike yours
Yep wide gears. I need em. I've got the 7 spd 12-32 sram, $20, weighs about 400 grams, (my favorite cassette). Indexed shifting. 53/39 rings.

modern nitto stem, old nitto randoneur bar
7800 Dura Ace calipers, R55C4 pads & basic shimano levers (fantastic combo)

the wheels are criminally heavy but they feel amazing once they spin up and the bearings are mint and i'm bunny hopping up curbs on them so it's cool.

I actually used to hate Peugeot bikes, because all the ones round here seem to be heavy junk, and people get tricked into them by the cool graphics.
So a nice Peugeot tricks the eye twice. It's a nice bike that looks like a sh*t bike that looks like a nice bike.

As much as I reqlly like the idea of a 753 framed Puegeot race bike, I never warmed up to the graphics and colors that Peugeot put on them the pastel colors just looks too kitsch to me. The same goes for the fonts they used on the bikes.
the same thing happened to Gitanes in the late 80's. These French bikes started to look like they are trying to look cute, instead of the serious race machines that they were, under the paint and graphics.
Just my personal take on these later 80's French bikes, in general.

this was kind of just the entirety of the late 80s/early 90s though, no? Some hate it, some love it but the Miami vice vibe was strong across a lot of marques during that time.

Im generally ok with it and particularly like the bike in question, paint and all.
