Um,.. yes allright i'll take my chill pill now.

BTW, does a Raleigh Twenty qualify as 'Vintage'.... or.. are the Terms 'Shopper' and 'Vintage' mutually exclusive? . Before i modded it the Tweny was 35,3 LBS ha ha ha, and that's for a Twenty inch bike!

Here's my two most

1971 Schwinn Continental: 42 lbs
Various '70s Raleigh Sports from my collection: 35-37 lbs
1984 Raleigh U.S.A. Competition 20 lbs, on-the-dot. (can't beat a 20 pounder for $40 bucks!)

Take care,

-Kurt

Speak for yourself - I'm a vintage weight weenie!

I put together a Favorio from Ellis Briggs of 531 EL, and 2nd gen super record, last summer. No other weight saving measures, and it is 19.2 lb. I think this may be the lightest steel bike I've ridden.
Patti's de Rosa is 19.5 with mostly SR, but it is a little EdBd bike...
The Pinarello Record that I've been messing with has almost all of the OMAS kit on it now, and weighs about 19.5 lb.
Vitus with mavic and Rovals - 18.4 lb
Trek 170 is about 20 lb with Kingsbury/Mavic Aero wheels...
I'd weigh the Team 753 Raleigh, but it seems to be all apart again.

Bikes: Mostly English - predominantly Raleighs

I used to have a 7 pound ride. It only had one wheel though.

My 1995 Trek 800 has not been changed since it rolled out of the LOB by it's original owner (not me). It weighs in at 30 lbs. It does not have a kickstand or light etc. Thought you might want to know.

Sweeeet! I reckon the Suburban weighs a little more than the Trek...maybe another 5-7 lbs-ish. I think that would be about right for an early 1970s electroforged Schwinn.

Bikes: Italvega 1971, Italvega 1972 SuperSpeciale, Holdsworth Mistral 1983.

My 1983 Holdsworth Mistral weighs 13 lbs. - - - w/o seat, wheels, and chain.
I've been wondering though, how much does the bike size effect weight - both of my bikes are tall (62 cm c-to-c).
Cheers.

I have a '73 Schwinn Varsity and a '74 Schwinn Suburban. (Those are, by far, my two heaviest bikes.) I don't know exact weights, but I've heard/read those bikes are in the 35-42 pound range! They certainly feel like they weigh that much when you pick them up! (I think my MGB might weigh less!)

This '70 I sold this summer came in at 42 pounds. Sure wish I'd kept it.

I attached a fish scale to a joist in my workshop. I added a strap to the hook. It weighs things up to 50lbs. Works great. I also have a smaller digital scale that weighs (parts) in grams or ounces. But I'm not a weight weenie and readily recognize the best way to lighten the load is skip those heavy dinners.

Suburban looks good in black. I guess the 10-speed didn't have the chainguard?

Mine's got a wider pieplate--'tis original and blingy. I envy your rear rack. I need one of those for my Schwinn!

I love that Suburban - stunning, simply stunning.

Now you've got me interested in hunting down a black & gold men's Suburban for myself...!

Take care,

My wife tells me the same thing about those nightime snacks. I told her the bike had to go on diet (while holding a Coors Light in my hand). Actually, I took up biking again because I was putting on too much weight and sure enough, since I started riding my bike regularly I've put on about 5 lbs. Maybe I should try the dieting and bike riding.

OK, I weighed my bikes yesterday. Without my aerobars (with just the regular drop bars) and without the seat, my Calfee weighed 15.2 pounds. Once I got all the stuff on there, including the new leather bar tape...and saddle bag.... It weighed 19 pounds. My Trek 5200 weighed in at 19.4 pounds.

(These are not exactly Classic bikes or vintage bikes, but I thought I put this in here anyway since I weighed them yesterday.)

so i have been working on a "New" vintage bicycle, like some of us were discussing last winter. I ran into a killa deal on a Don Walker (with a dent) and built it up as close to vintage style as I could. It is steel, it has tubulars, it has bar end shifters (the frame bosses are brazed on such that downtube shifters can't be used). I used Brew Lite brakes (single pivot sidepulls, I think diacompe before they ground 'em down and refinished 'em), with campy record brake levers. mostly newer campy record stuff otherwise.

The brake levers, the front fork, the bars, and the seatpost are carbon (but they all look sort of vintage). The frame is made with Columbus Life (Niobium drenched, whatever that means) steel tubing, tig or fillet. Wheels are Cane Creek Aerohead Titanium tubulars, with Ritchey WCS tires.

Without pedals, the bike weighs 17 pounds. I won't ride it until all of the sand is off of the road - when I do, I'll post some pictures and give a road report.

How do you like the leather tape? I have been lusting after some since Brooks came out with it...
