I have some smooth Weinmann wide rims with black Maillard hubs. Very tempting, but I don't know how the roller cams would handle those. They look like a Schwinn S-2 in width. I don't know if they were stock, but they came off my 84 Trek 830.,,,,BD

Oh this is getting good. This bike makes me smile just to look at it. I may change the saddle since it feels a little bulky. I will ride it first of course. I am not hating the springs though, hehe. Kit Carson the tabby, even made it into two pics. He's sneaky that way.,,,,BD

BD: that Ross is really shaping up. Love it, and thanks for the kind words on mine. That slingshot stem was waiting for a suitable bike for a while. It's funny how the Ross has a 21.1mm steerer, I'd have thought that standard would be gone by 1986-1987.

Thanks! As far as I know, Worksman industrial bikes STILL uses that quill size? Of course I think they're still using tooling from the early 1900's too. ,,,,BD

I got a wild hair after work, and drove down to my new favorite LBS, and picked up some cables and a chain. The B67 didn't make the cut. It was too wide, and restricting leg extension. It felt "too high" while riding, like I was leaning on the bars when my legs were extended. I put the Vetta on, and every problem went away immediately. I actually raised the seatpost an inch, and still feel like there was less weight on my hands. LOVE the bike. The brakes are like rubber vise grips, hehe. I can actually lock the back wheel in grass. Not my first bike with roller cams, but it's always awesome the first time you grab a handful of brake lever. I now have three RC bikes, but this is the only one I presently own with a chainstay mounted rear.,,,,BD

I wish I still had my Fuji Sundance with rollers. That was a sweet bike!

Soon I'll be able to use this Mongoose...all I have to do now is get the crown race taken off of the old fork at the shop, and while I'm at it get the steerer tube cut down on the new one. Then I will finally get to put on the new fork and use this Mongoose how it was meant to be used. This will be my first time ever actually using a suspension fork; I hope it will be a life changing experience.

Well I got the fork on...

But I broke the preload adjuster knob. The thing wouldn't budge at all with my hands, so I got some pliers and tried it. Of course then the knob snaps in half and now I can't even change the preload. I'm also only 140 lbs, so the fork barely moves without me being able to adjust the preload...What an awful way to start off.

I purchased these for parts but soon they started to grow on me. Both are lugged steel, mostly original with fair amount of paint issues but mechanically sound.

93 Bridgestone MB-4. Commuted to work on it today!


95 Bianchi Peregrine. Somebody painted the stays black, probably to cover chips in paint. It was a sloppy paint job but the result is somehow pleasing.

i do feel like the tires are fitting, tho i just pulled them off an 80s Raleigh cruiser. (come to think of it, where is that bike...?)

I probably posted this bike before, but I overhauled it for the first time(ever) last year. I bought it new in 1994, and it sits here pretty much the same, except pedals, tires and consumables. I wanted an AMP Research frame at the time, but no shop had any. I found a Mongoose Amplifier frame/fork(same as an AMP, just re-branded) at a shop in Seattle, so I had them build it up with XC Pro Suntour stuff. It's a good bike, but not up to par with anything current. Still makes a good conversation piece though, and it's a fun bike to ride. For whatever it's worth, I 86d the stickers/decals on the day I brought it home 21 years ago.

That sucks, any chance you can get some help from where you bought it? Maybe Rock Shox can send you a replacement knob? What fork is it? Love the IBOC by the way, I had my eye on a few of those before I got my Bianchi. They appear to be under appreciated.

I bought the fork from Jenson, so I don't think I can get much help there. I will probably contact RockShox though and see about getting another. Hopefully it was just stiff and there's not an actual problem in there... I'd hate to have to pay to get something in there fixed.

Yep. I did it. I am now the proud owner of a mid 80's Raleigh Crested Butte with a 23 inch frame. Not sure what year, but it's a Deerhead bike with Takagi XT cranks. Three broken spokes on the back wheel, but salvageable I believe. Rear derailleur is an STX, boo hiss!!!! The PO took off the rear brakes and lost them, and at the same time removed only the brake lever itself from the handlebars(left the clamping part, sigh.) Sad, because they look NOS otherwise. Somehow the middle top tube cable guide is missing in action. Overall the paint is very nice and can be polished out to look even better. For $90, I wasn't going to whine too much about a few easily repairable details. Pics tomorrow, as I just got home from the 60 mile round trip.,,,,BD

It's also ten PM, the clock showing 7:55 is WAY wrong.


Also, I am confused about the frame and fork tubes? All the references I find say 555MT tubing. Mine is 575MT on frame and fork, and the fork stickers look very Reynolds, triangle shape and all.

Here's my mid 80's Maruishi MT-5, which was touted as a mountain bike.
No brazing for a front derailer cable (and no derailer) yet somehow it wound up with a double ring crankset. Sugino No 66 with date stamp for 83. Rear derailer by Suntour with ZD date stamp which is Apr 83.
I've seen other photo's on the net and it appears those are original handle bars (or quite the coincidence as they also have the same stem).

Question: Does it seem realistic that it could come with a double crank set yet no derailer? There are no marks on the frame where one may have been. I added one for a while by DIYing a cable stop for the guide but took it off and just move the chain with my foot when I need to. I was thinking of replacing it with a single ring to make it more period correct but now wonder if that's the way it came?
