1988 Stumpjumper that I picked up last fall. I just put the bars/shifters and fenders on. It's my take no prisoners road slushrider. I like it a lot; my only regret is that I went with cheap Nashbar road tires. If I'd known how much I'd like it, I would have gone with Paselas.

Can't say that I have. I did a couple 30 mi rides with the stock bars; just made the change to drops and took it out for a few miles yesterday. It's pretty comfy though. And easy to spot on a bike rack.

Here's my 1994 GT Outpost. Its 16 years old( thats 40 in bike years) and heavy but it still tears up the roads, grass, mud or what ever else I can roll through. It is still a work in progress, I powdercoated the bike with glow in the dark powder and added some upgrades. The stickers and pedals are BMX but I like it. Some people say it's ugly and some people say it looks cool.

Looks like I got lucky...Bye bye sorentose and hello Orient Express...A lot has been replaced on it including the bar, rd, shifters rimset and I'm sure something else but I just got it home and snapped some quick pics. It should clean up nicely despite the decal damage. Time to get to work!
Edited to add there's even talk of running down the original manuel, receipt, bar and other goodies!! (crosses fingers)

^^Nice one...Three questions...Did it just come with one fender? How is that kickstand working out? And could I get a better look at how that rear brake caliper is set up? That may be why it only has one fender...Mine still looks like it did in the Jan. 31st shots. I put it on the back burner for now. I should be finished with it in another month or so. Thanx...

Regarding the kickstand, you have a sharp eye. It was on the bike when I bought it, and I've never seen one like that. It attaches to the left rear part of the chainstay and the seatstay. Personally, I like it. It's very convenient.
Regarding the brake, you can see a picture of a similar one below:
It's a Suntour brake, probably made by Dia-Compe (Our family is friendly with a member of the family that owns Dia-Compe, and that is what I was told), and you can read about them here and there. It's called a roller-cam brake, and it's marked "Cunningham Design."

I wonder how the ride quality of your Sidewinder compares to my 1982 Ross Diamond Cruiser?
I just finished her and the first test ride felt good, steering was at least somewhat responsive and the bike didn't ride as tank like as I had thought it would.

That was my very first attempt at a mountain bike. I literally broke every part of that bike except the wheels. I ended up learning to braze and putting cantilevers on it, along with suntour AG derailleurs, flat bars, a longer stem, SR Apex triple cranks...eventually the frame died, but the schwinn cimmaron that replaced it really never handled or climbed as well. This is the first Ross Cruiser that I've seen since!

Those roller cams were a Charlie Cunningham (Of Wilderness Trail Bikes fame) and are very powerful when set up correctly. I have several sets of them. Unfortunately, I don't have any matching frames. That WTB Phoenix is beautiful, and the fork must be worh a fortune. You are a lucky man.
