I have a couple of MTB's that I will be redoing here shortly, one is a 80's Diamondback Sorrento ( sorry no pics yet) that is black with purple splash that I picked up for $25 on CL a few yrs ago & it had a Ritchey Vantage Pro rear rim with a Deore LX 7spd hub. The frame needed quite a bit of touch up paint which I am almost finished doing. I am installing Shimano Deore LX 9spd drive with rapidfire shifters and all the purple Ano I could find, it's going to be sick.

I am gathering parts for my next two that are next on the build list, the first is a 1996 Jamis Team Dakar which my boss picked up for me for a $100. I am in the process of replacing the front and rear shocks which I have, then a total service of all the bearings, cables & brakes. The last one is a GT Terra Outpost Trail ( a mouth full) that I think I am going to redo for my wife to ride. It will be getting completely upgraded to Deore LX and STX RC & I will be putting on the Ritchey Vantage wheelset ( I found a matching front to the rear I already had). I can't wait to start on it. a few pics below of how the Jamis & GT are now.

Dug out of an unfinished dirt floor basement, every thing that could rust did and
every thing that could stick did. We think it was in the basement about 15 years
at least. The people has lived in the house 15 years and had never been in
the basement. In fact they didn't even know it had a basement for most of the
time they lived there.

A little work and a few new bits.

I didn't realize the Ironman bikes had been around for 15 years. I didn't really notice them 'til at least the turn of the century.

Here are my Trek mountain bikes. The first is a 1993 ice violet 7000 and the second is a 1996 nude carbon fiber Y22. Both of these have been through many "upgrades" over the years, but I do have all of the original parts. I bought both of them new and continue to ride them.

I figured that. Just don't go throwing a lot of money at it. Those bikes were like $130 new at Target.

We spent $55 re-doing it.

It is a 21 speed scram equipped with ssi shifters and is a pretty nice bike to ride. I think it may pre-date the Target version.

Just seems like a better bike that you would think.

BTW, it is an aluminum frame. The bike is lighter than
you expect. I don't remember but is was under 30lbs.

On a side note. I am trying to pry a late eighties/early nineties Hard Rock GSX from my boss's hands. Paint is PERFECT, but the components aren't the best. Seems entry level, even as Hard Rocks go. It's kind of a light blue meets charcoal grey, with red graphics. It's a pretty large frame, so I am trying to decide on a touring/commuting rig vs updating to a sweet retro MTB with new parts. Either way it should look great. The aero bars are DEFINITELY coming OFF,,,,BD

I couldn't think of a better place to ask this question, so here it goes-

My friend has an early Specialized Stumpjumper, no suspension, and is pure black. It also seems to be some sort of "onza" special edition. We think it's 80's -ish, but there seems to be absolutely NO info online. Can anyone help?

I don't know about an "Onza" special edition, could be. Onza was an accessory copany that made bar ends, tires(like the Onza Porc) and I can't really remember what else.

edit - sounds like it may be 88 or 89ish.

Pretty sure there was no Onza Edition. Their barends frequently came with decals which someone probably stuck to the bike.

Got pics?

From Mombat:

1986 Stumpjumper came in black
1989 Stumpjumper Comp came in black.
1990 Stumpjumper and Stumpjumper Team came in black pearl
1991 Stumpjumper and Stumpjumper Team came in black

Thanks guys, I think it's a 1990 Stumpjumper Team. Even the pink lettering is on, and this is the best pic I could find.

Thanks Sixty Fiver.....

I was able to repair the original Rapid Fire Plus shifters, and got the original bar ends from the owner.... Here it is with a new set of tires, bar ends and original shifters. I am really enjoying this bike.

There is such a nice range of bikes on here.

I finally got my new wheelset on my Diamondback Vertex WCF. Its too bad its going to be raining all weekend. The ride around the neighborhood made me want to get out on some trails.

1994 Gary Fisher Tassajara

Just found this at a garage sale 3 days ago. What a great bike! Completely stock, looks like it's hardly been out of the garage. Took the toe straps off, but that's all. Already have a bike that I thrash, would like to put some less knobby tires on and make a sweet commuter out of this- keep it pretty
