Well, it's set up for going to work at my workplace. So one pannier has clothes the other side has shower essentials. It's looks so cluttered because I carry two batteries for the Niterider Digital Evolution head light. One under the cross tube (Where it' supposed to be) infront of the seat stay and a second velcroed to the rack stays. Both by virtue of the extension cable intended for using the light mounted to a helmet. (I had two of the cables available to me.)

Well here is my submission:
Late 80s Diamond Back Arrival
Most everything is stock Deore XT.
It has modern risers and LX levers, front brakes, Maxxis 2.4 tires (who needs suspension!), and a Koobi saddle.
I got it off of ebay last year for under $200 shipped. Put an all new drive train on it the levers and brakes.
It is not lugged steel but it has that great old mountain bike geometry and it is a total blast to ride with those huge tires.
I'm hooked!

Here's a neat Specialized Rockhopper I recently came across. I had to replace the rear derailleur, but all the other mechanical bits are original, including the DX rapidfires. A really nice-handling old mountain bike:

Finally picked this one up today. Got it in a trade, we kept playing phone tag for about two weeks. Love the thick tubing and the seat stays set 90* from normal. From the side they look like your average stays, from the back they're massive. Fat knobbies make me nervous on the street, so it will probably get some Drifters or some other multipurpose tires.,,,,BD

Thanks to my 11 year old, who taught me how to use the digital camera and download pics:
1987 Schwinn Cimarron. The only bike I've bought both new and complete. Rode it hard for 10 years, went to trailer towing (kids) duty for a few, and now back in semi regular service offroad. All original equipment but for Stronglight A9 headset, BB UN72, Fat City flat bar, D XT 7S shifters, and DA 8S wheels with Matrix SingleTrack rims I built in 1989. Yes, I use the Hite-Rite. I gave up trying to match the red early on and have done almost all touch up with yellow, including the seatstay top repair in 1994.

Some idiot PO yellowed that Beetle. There's a layer of black under that, and under the black is the original Polar Silver. It'll be back to that someday, after the mechanical work is done (motor and brakes, mostly).
I used an old Schwinn yellow touch-up bottle from the 70s. When that ran out, I went with "judy yellow."

Got this one today at the flea market for $20! Mid 80's? Fuji Sundance. Lugged 441 frame, Suntour drops, XC cam brakes, Grafight 2000 pedals, Suntour XC shifters with Mountech FD, Nitto stem AND bars. It obviously needs some work, but lugs and cam brakes??! No way I could pass it up.

With that under-the chainstay u-brake, I'd guess '86-'88 (the years Sheldon discusses.). Almost everybody dropped them by '89, but GT kept using them into the '90s (although I'm not sure for how long). My '91 Karakoram has u-brakes, but they're mounted on the seat stay, rather than the chainstay.

I've got an all original '83 trek 850. I'm the second owner and it's in fantastic shape (although it could use a good cleaning). I've really only learned some about this bike until recently, if you guys are interested I could get some pictures up soon.

1988 Kuwahara Shasta.... running fixed and on slicks for the urban jungle.
Ishiwata Ex triple butted frame, Tange fork, Sugino VP crank and 48 tooth Sugino chain ring.
It reminds me a little of my old GT Karkoram which was also a fixed gear that rarely saw any pavement.

Can you believe that somebody purchased this and used it 1 time in all those years!!??
I have always been faithful to, and enjoyed riding Cannondale MTB's in foul weather and on Singletrack, but I think that I'm going to have to let go of 1 of my vintage Canny's for this Specialized.....This is the first Rockhopper that I've ever had and I think that it is the 1st all-Suntour MTB that I've ever had as well.
I'm going to feel guilty getting this sucker dirty, but that is what these are meant for right?

My trusty old Trek 930 before and after. And I got an old half-lugged baby blue scott frame coming to me in the mail which I plan to put those white schwalbe tires on... gonna be puuurdy. I'm happy that I've discovered vintage MTB's at a time when most folks are going nuts over vintage track and road bikes. There's some real good bargains to be had on ebay and the like in this department.

Just picked this up today for $27 at a pawn shop. Man what a mess, lol. Spray bombed black, but was originally black with the white slung on paint. I found that after looking the bike over. There were all kinds of raised ribs under the paint. Unfortunately they did away with the top tube name decal since it didn't show up during the scraping. Not true vintage I know, but can anyone shed some light on the possible model? Did they use this paint scheme on all of the GT models? FD/RD are Deore LX, rear brake and hubs are exage(brake is Exage Mountain? Front is canti brakes. Crank is 400GS. Rims are Ritchey Vantage sport. 1 1/8 threaded YST headset.
It looks about the same level as my MB-5 guessing by the crank, but who knows. This thing is all over the place component wise so it's hard to tell what's original? Any guesses for the model? It's 7 speed with STI push/push thumb shifters.,,,,,BD
