Astro Daimaler(sp?) on CraigsList from DC area. Listed Sept10. Could be good!

I'm looking for my first road bike, which of these is the best deal, considering the fit is the same? The Schwinn is in the best condition, but I've heard disparaging remarks about later Schwinns.

Late 90's Schwinn 564 $200 - http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/bik/204706752.html
Motobecane $120 - http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bik/205327839.html
ChroMo Shogun $130 - http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/bik/206108073.html

I'd check out the "Puchi". I found a Puch 10 speed on freecycle, the lady said it was a 3 speed, so I went expecting a beater and it was actually a light probably mid 80's 10 speed, sweet!

World of wheels (from DC japanese bike ad) was a shop in the area?
(I think up above fairfax circle on Rte 50, that was where I bought my
Viscount). That bike whatever it is, is a good deal, Shimano Crane (dura ace
precursor) and tubulars. . . . I'd be game.

The moto in NY for $200? not a good deal. boom era bottom of the line
selling for more now than when new.

Well, after much soul searching, and encouragement from my wife, I went out and looked at the Paramount. I grimaced, I hemmed and hawed, and I decided to go ahead and get it!
Yes, it is a Series 7 with full Ultegra. Has one little paint chip on the downtube, but aside from the dirty bar tape and a little grime on the bike, is in excellent shape. It's an attractive purplish blue color, and the lugwork looks great to me.

After rooting around on the web I came to the conclusion that it is a '92.

Now my only decision is whether I should keep it or not. I'll put a few miles on it, and then decide if it is better to ride, or turn into RAGBRAI money.

Maybe I should get rid of my PX-10 and keep this.. Decisions decisions...

I've got an e-mail out on this, but I can't make out what's in the picture.

Clearly its worth it for spare freewheels. Looks like the rear one has center-pulls. But I think they've all got top tube/stem shifters, which is a bad sign.

I'd pay $25 for that lot. You could cobble together a pretty decent winter beater I'm guessing.

Precisely my inclination.

And I have a friend in Med School who needs a bike for the rest of the fall. Trying to get a Raliegh put together for him, but the Simplex rear derailer isn't cooperating. (the cogs, at one time probably circular, are now roughly shaped like triangles). This could help me out on that front, too.

rebadged (fake) colnago on eBay?

Rebranded (fake)? colnago on eBay question...

Anyone care to offer opinions? Exage and colnago don't jive. Plus, look at the fork and lugs. This doesn't look like a colnago to me. I'd think that a colnago with SLX tubing would have used cinelli lugs, the rear brake bridge is...?

I'd up your bid. I'd pay $20 + $25. $20 for the stems and handlebars, plus another $25 to someone for hauling the rest of the bikes away. Lots of cheap bikes ain't worth as much as one good one, but I'd have four sets of handlebars! :o

Is it just me or am I seeing three bikes (not four) in the picture? The middle one is a Firenze, which was given out free when you bought a stereo back in the late 80s. Those were scary to work on--turn a wrench, brake something.

Well, he got back to me and I'm going to get them tomorrow night. I'll report back on my findings then...

I think that paint scheme would have a fluted top tube, as well...

It is too small for me, but looks to be in nice shape. I am suprised it is still available.

Oh, I dunno. They were an option on the Schwinn Paramount for years and were standard on the Paramount tandem and the Sports Tourer. Here is a clip from the Paramount order-form from '75.

Sweeping generalizations like that are a sure sign of a vintage cyclist who hasn't been around much.
