I heartily disagree. My LeTour Luxe has stem-mounted friction shifters. While its no Paramount, its my daily rider and I'm still honeymooning after an entire summer on it.

Maybe. One thing's for sure. I'm not interested in anything made before 1980. Too primative. Why not just get one of those 2 wheelers with a giant front wheel and a tiny back one.

I should have said "99% of the time" instead of "sure sign."

Oh, sorry. You need to be posting in the Classic & Vintage Except For Earlier Than 1980 & Without Stem Shifters Forum. Check with Joe, it's only available with the Ultra-Lifetime Bike Snob Membership, which also includes directions to the fraternity handshake and secret decoder ring. And of course a certificate suitable for framing that identifies you as the discerning bike snob that you are :D ....

(Owner of a 1978 Volkscycle Mark XX with a 4.5 lb double butted Cro-Mo frame that kicks ass over 90% of the overpriced junk out there today. And came stock with stem shifters.)

So I guess the frame for your certificate would have lugs and down tube shifters:D

I like that Collegiate very, very much. The price isn't out of line if it looks as good up close as the pics....

Anyone need some old Peugeot parts?

As a favor to C&V readers... If anyone thinks the parts on this bike would be worth $10, I could drive up and pick it up, and ship whatever parts you want.

Or you can do it yourself...

You'll probably have to ask the seller questions before you can tell for sure.

I am a big fan of pedals. Hobby Horse Velocipedes are not my style.

Hey, this is gonna be mine. Leave it alone! I'm close enough, so I can pick it up myself, so I'll give you one bottle of the pilsner for finding this. :D

In my experience, that bike is neither vintage nor is it a classic.

Try the FG/SS forum sticky "Entry level track bikes".

No expert, and just guessing, but my money is on that handlebar pinchbolt mount light bracket... on the white housing reflector in VGC.
