If it's aluminum, I may be interested enough to make an offer. Just so I have one, and it would go straight to the painter.

I doubt it's aluminum by the look of the rust spots. Forks look like 1984, and the "All Purpose Bike" is, I'm sure, an add-on. The Centurion decal looks a lot like the '84's, too.

brasstinman 01-22-09 06:00 AM

It's a steel frame. I'd consider selling it. I was going to strip it for a paint and build it up but I'd be willing to sell it if the right offer was there.

RobbieTunes 01-23-09 07:55 PM

I seem to have plenty of steel Centurions right now; it's the aluminum Facet I'm looking for.

brasstinman 01-24-09 05:27 PM

I've decided to keep it and build it up as a SS.

RobbieTunes 01-31-09 09:38 PM

OK, the skinny on the 1985 Prestige:
SN 856006, bottom bracket is stamped "TANGE" and decal says Made in Japan. Pretty simple.
Note the pedals are Shimano PD-6402, same group as the bike. I had a set of the clip in this group, didn't know they had a "matching" clipless (by Look) Original bike was Dura Ace. This may slowly get that way, as I pick up a 7400 group, including 7402 clipless pedals.

The frame is lighter than a Tange 1, or at least feels like it is. The chrome dropouts are Shimano. This is the only bb I've ever seen stamped Tange, but I'm sure there are more.

2 more. I was busy today.

RobbieTunes 01-31-09 10:21 PM

And a little blasphemy, to some folks. A Campagnolo Ironman.
Chorus Ergos, RD, cassette. Veloce calipers, crank set, bb. Triomphe FD, will be changed to Chorus, likely. Vento wheels.
Cabling from PBK $10, wrap PBK $3.

Don't worry, the Shimano 600 tricolor version is awaiting assembly.

Robbie My oddball 89 LeMans had the same Shimano PD pedals on it. My LeMans also has the Ironman molded crown fork and it is chrome.
Ed

RobbieTunes 02-01-09 07:30 AM

Cool. I"m liking those pedals more and more. I've never seen a chrome Lemans fork crown. Would that be an early 80's or maybe late 70's model?

EddyR 02-01-09 10:53 AM

Robbie It is a late 1989. It has the oddball serial number that was finally established as a 1989. I posted it last year on this thread. I later found out it is a Ironman relabeled as a LeMans to get rid of parts at the end of the Centurion run. 105 parts are dated 1988. I have another 1987 Ironman and it is identical. I will repost it soon as it looks a lot different than when I posted it last year.

I bought this bicycle on ebay and built it up for my current ex-girlfriend as an act of love. Unfortunately, she saw it as somehow sinister and controlling and it is now time to get it out of my life.

Gee, could you possibly start your overpriced auction description off more negatively?

RobbieTunes 02-03-09 01:51 PM

RobbieTunes 02-04-09 04:21 PM

Screamin' killer machine. Great job. Turbo madness.
And I haven't forgotten your Ironman frame. It's here, box is coming.

riva 02-06-09 11:49 AM

Still centurionless here, but here's one that got away from me, for the database..

N2P5126

Red 1982 Lemans that just sold locally.

Thanks Robbie. I figured it was about time I got some pics up since I am probably the only one who hasn't put their finished Turbo up yet.
That's awesome, I was actually just thinking about that the other day wondering if it was still at your place or if it was lost in transit. Just let me know if you need my address or anything else.

ascayola 02-06-09 12:10 PM

Good job Erik!! I really like the white saddle/tape combo.

RobbieTunes 02-06-09 12:19 PM

Let's see, that's 4:
EpicErik,
23skidoo,
ascayola,
and myself...

Three reds and a blue. The '83 catalog has a black one.
A single-speed is on velospace.
A rumoured "stripped & polished" version out there.

I hope there's more....

centurion track bike?:http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bik/1022223652.html

"Up for sale is a rare Centurion track bike. No, not a conversion, a REAL track frame. There aren’t too many of these around. 50 seat tube and a 51.5 TT. It’s complete with Suntour dropouts and Tange fork tips. It has a Shimano threaded headset, and I’m pretty sure the BB is Shimano. It has an SR seatpost and a Fivegold NJS padded saddle. The cranks are Crupi and has a Campagnolo chainring. The Suntour track hubs are laced to Araya gold tubulars, but the tires are shot. There are no dents, but it does have signs of age/use. There is no chain. It was used exclusively on the Encino Velodrome. My wife has a Strawberry that fits her better, so this must go. $600 for it all. Or if you’d like to leave the wheels off, you can have the frame/fork and cranks for $500. I can get photos this evening."

Oooooh. Wow. Golly, Beav, that's a pretty bike!
That absolutely belongs in RobbieTunes' harem.
At $500, absolutely not gonna happen.
Amazing bike, great Centurion.
Thanks for the link.
Aaargh.

norskagent 02-06-09 04:31 PM

that's pretty cool, you can build it back up as mostly original w/ the catalog specs...
