This is NOT the 54cm Ironman I did before, similar colors. That ended up in roccobike's basement, with the parts scattered to the breezes....
This is a 56cm by way of Little Darwin, built for tirathlons and sold, passed on to her dad, who traded it back as part of deal for a Douglas aluminum build. Good to have it back, and back in East Carolina University colors. LSU fans can appreciate it, too. A 1999 Caloi was cannibalized for the RSX STI's, 8-sp RSX wheel set. I used 2 sets of SiS cable/housings I found in white in LBS junk box for $1 each for the STI cables, and some more bargain box cables/housings for the brakes. OEM Kusuki Winpista bars on Nitto Deluxe stem. The Michelin Speediums were 12.50/ea free shipping from PBK. Business810 swapped me the blue/yellow Looks, and I rode it today, with a 13-26 Forte cassette. http://velospace.org/files/P1090303.JPG http://velospace.org/files/P1090294.JPG http://velospace.org/files/P1090297.JPG http://velospace.org/files/P1090302.JPG |
Robbie In another thread I mentioned my 87 Ironman that I used the same Parts from a Coloi. It is soon to get a 7/11 team paint job as this frame is badly rusted and it is my second pink and yellow 87 and one was enough. I didn't realize that you lived in NC also until tonight. I live just east of Charlotte and will be over your way this summer and I will bring the 87 Ironman with me. It would be nice to meet you. I sold my to large for me mint 1987 Ironman for $350 last year and I see it is up for sale again now for $599. I think he has gone to high.

Ed When you come this way, I'll try to get some of "Robbie's Kids" together for an Ironman or Centurion ride. We're all challenged in the same Centurion way. I can think of 5 off hand, plus me. Somewhere down your way is j hughes's brother Zach, a rabid MTB guy who has a Lemans and would get a kick out of the pink/yellow Ironman. I've been after one of those for a while, I know who has it, he knows I know, and I know he knows I know. It's just a matter of time. |

Here is my second yellow and pink 1987 Ironman I bought a few months ago. It is the one that is going to be repainted as a 7/11 bike. It looks good in the picture but it is badly rusted at the bottom bracket,no paint left. Black stem and odd handlebars will go. Coloi parts going on this bike.

Ironman prices certainly up this week.
That tall one, $405, everything else over $350, except the one with the shipiping calculator, but it's likely over $325 with shipping. The 5th one this month is pretty nice, upgraded, and has a $379 reserve. And Carbon number 2 was finished tonight, as far a things go. Left to do: cut & cap the cables, scrub a dub dub, photos. |
How do you tell the difference between a investment cast and a tig fork. Can you show us a picture. I also have a 1989 LeMans with a all chrome fork like the Ironman. My 87 Ironman has 600 components not BioPace.

A couple of serial numbers:
Both 1988 Centurion Ironman Carbon, 88B0170 and 88C0163 |
And here is 88B0170, Shimano equipped, the twin to 88C0163, which is Campy.
Heads up for the Los Angeles CL post from Spinz. Assistance on pickup and shipping from riva. 8-Sp Shimano 600 group, Wheel set was what I had, looks good and runs well. http://velospace.org/files/P1090405.JPG http://velospace.org/files/P1090406.JPG http://velospace.org/files/P1090410.JPG http://velospace.org/files/P1090403.JPG |
Anyone know if the headset spacers on the 76 Semi Pro are threaded or keyed?
Thanks- |

Hi Rob, . Gorgeous, your latest Ironman Carbon build. As always, I'm green with envy. Too bad it's not my size. You could send it to me for Valentine's Day. . |

T Winthrop :thumb:I must say you have helped me many times in the past and you have done it again. Here is a picture of my rusty 87 Ironman fork and it is the normal tig welding, it is ugly compared to my 1989 LeMans chrome fork in the second picture.I never noticed the difference before. I thought they were the same but the 89 is a investment cast fork. It is wider across the top and very smoothly finished. This is the bike that had the oddball serial number. The 105 parts are 1989 parts. Nothing had ever been changed on this bike when I got it from the original owner.I have over 1500 miles on it in the last year. Here is Centurion Cavaletto I picked up at a thrift today. Heavy at around 25-26 pounds.Shimano SIS light action Taiwan built serial # 740224. I am guessing 87-88. Thanks for the fork pictures. Am I correct on the forks?
Ed:love::love: |
EddyR, don't leave that fork lying around, it's a beauty, and I could make a black Ironman look like a Carbon Ironman with something like that.....
Could you PM me some pics of that Lemans? |

Hi, . This bike is probably a 1979 Centurion Super Elite. Ten-spd and cable-guide clips (not braze-ons) suggest pre-1980s. The maroon color is offered in the '79 catalog and maroon-colored bikes then also had pinstriping just like what appears in the CL pics. "Super Elite" would appear on the chain stays, not the top tube. Later model names would be on the top tube. . Tubeset is Tange Champion CrMo, but catalog doesn't say what flavor (#1, #2... ?). Fork is Tange CrMo too. |
Last 5 Ironman bikes sold on eBay:
439.00 405.00 323.99 353.00 359.76 Avg is 376.15 shipped. That's $100 higher than the market averages, even after they were added in (July 2006 to present) In the last 6 months, avg is over $300 shipped. If roccobike and I keep buying them, we can drive the price up. Reminds me of the stock market scene in Trading Places.............................I get to be Eddie Murphy |

So peeps.
I've made friends with an LBS owner and get to hang out in the shop. It mostly deals with used stuff so I'm getting to learn more about working on bikes, but more to the point, I get to see a lot. My first bike is a Centurion Le Mans RS that I posted on this forum last June. I'm checking out cereal numbers as I see more Centurions. Today I found another. Can't remember the model (though I think it might be a low end Cavaletto) but the serial number is F701008. |

I picked this up off of CL last weekend. The serial number is N4S0363 so it looks like it's a very early 85.
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...nIronman87.jpg This bike was owned by a bike mechanic before it was sold to the previous owner, the guy I bought it from. Note that turkey wings have been added to the Shimano 600 brake levers. The downtube shifters are index on a clamp, not bolted to the braze-ons. My guess is the braze-ons are too short for the shifters. The Shimano 600 rear derailer has been replaced with a 105. Otherwise it looks pretty stock. Of all the color schemes for Ironman bikes, this is probably my favorite. |

Bugger. an '85. Very cool. I'm glad you got it, Al.
It just would have made my Prestige mad. We may have to have a photo lineup, '83 to '89 Tange-framed Centurion "competition" models/frames. 83 Turbo 84 Comp TA 85 Prestige, Ironman 86 Ironman 87 Ironman 88 Ironman, steel and carbon fiber 89 Ironman I guess we'll have to look long and hard for a Facet, if any exist outside Australia. And my latest pursuit seems to be unrequited lust...maybe he'll email me back today. All I can do is offer to buy, go get it if he accepts. Whimsy is cruel. and A.Winthrop....yes, the conspiracy theory is true. There's an NC guy on eBay, boxdogbikes, that I know has at least 4 Ironman bikes, and that was before eBay stopped showing buyer ID's. |
great stuff to start.
Centurion Tange frames. You can beat 'em, but it'll cost you. I'll have mine up tonight. I think roccobike, j mazz, geekrunner, ascayolo, EpikEric, and a host of others could list some. And I'd really like to know who boxdogbikes is, since he bought at LEAST 4 Ironman bikes I bid on. |
