Can this bike possibly weigh only 16.8 lbs?

This is what the seller said that the "bathroom scale" weight is. I'd like to believe it, but I'm skeptical:

Sounds as if he lost a few pounds on the scale while he was at it.

I seriously doubt it, particularly with that big, honkin' 13/28 cassette back there, which doesn't seem to jive with the rest - wouldn't a Dura-Ace machine have Shimano HG?

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

sounds like the seller was having a lortab moment when he said 16.8 lb. Man, with lortab my bikes don't weigh anything at all...

This is kind of a funny bike - clearly a nice frame and fork, and yeah, the early stuff was HG, but the handlebars are a lot older than the rest of the bike...the seatpost is newer, and campy...that isn't a cassette, it is a regina america freewheel (good stuff, but I think it is newer than the bike too...

I'm guessing that this is a frankenbike that the guy had high expectations for and, well, it didn't work out that he could drop his buddies on their Cielos...

$600's too much unless you just have to have that particular bike.

The king of all obsessive compulsive bike collectors:

https://members.jcom.home.ne.jp/my_bianchi/

absolutely incredible - This bike is not among those that he has collected (at least not in its completely finished form...), and the fork is kind of weird - it looks to me, for all the world, like a pinarello crown on that bike. The centenario has a similar no lug look but it wasn't chromed on top...

Bikes: Willier Zero 7; Merlin Extralight; Calfee Dragonfly tandem, Calfee Adventure tandem; Cervelo P2; Motebecane Ti Fly 29er; Motebecanne Phantom Cross; Schwinn Paramount Track bike

My bathroom scale doesn't weigh in 1/10th increments. That bike weighs 20lbs if it weighs an ounce. I have a 1989 Paramount OS that had virtually the same build, down to the pedals. Also a 60cm frame. When it had the D/A 7 speed it weighed a little over 20 lbs, and the OS frame is lighter than this bike's.

Bathroom scales are a really bad way to weigh bikes. However, I'd be interested in bidding on his scale for my diet program.

This reminds me of too many deals I've passed up over the years because of obsessing over the wrong details. Does the bike weigh 16.8 lb? No. Does it weigh exactly what an all-Dura Ace Bianchi Specialissima Supercorsa in pristine condition would weigh? Yes. And the fork is correct and original, by the way, in reply to an earlier poster's musings. You have to love the no-compromise criterium geometry, with that barely visible fork rake.

Well, the seller emailed me back after I told him the proper weigh to bathroom scale a bike (rider+bike - rider = bike weight) and it came back at a more realistic 22 lbs and change.

Before, he tried to balance the bike on the scale and was holding it...hence the 16+ lbs!

22 lbs sounds more like it, especially for such a large frame. It's obvious why many manufacturers won't even get into the "weight game". The ones that do will quote the weight of the bike with the smallest frame available. Today you will see most bikes sold with no pedals, whereas mine has pedals and toeclips and straps. AAMOF, I never go out on a ride without a pump and spare tub strapped under the seat, plus a water bottle if it's going to be more than half an hour.

it is a lovely bike, although too tall for me. Do you know what year it was made?

Wish I had that seller's bathroom scale. He probably has a 40 inch [101 cm] waist... but only weighs 120 pounds [55 kilos].

Seriously, I have a bike from circa 1990 now restored with all the correct period Dura-Ace 7400, 8-spd, pre-STI components including the: seatpost, stem, hubs (with heavy steel QR skewers), - the whole gruppo. Weight is closer to 20 lbs... but... MY frame & fork is titanium.

No way unless that is a misprint and it is a size 30 frame . I would be willing to bet it is a lot closer to 20 if not over 20lbs. I have a size 60 Panasonic (1984) with Columbus tubing, Sun Tour, tubular tires and it is just a hair under 22lbs.

Don't laugh so hard about steel frames. My Peugeot PSV-10 hot rod weighs 18.5. Super Vitus 980 tubing.
