Has anyone heard of Biscayne?

Found another possible bike (last one was an elance 400 that didn't seem to fit) but have never heard of this make, it's a Biscayne "Trident" bike.

the bike fits well and is a cheap price ($100 for a relatively light steel frame around 25 lbs., brand new tires, suntour derailer, 12 speed)

the only thing that kind of had me holding off was to see if i could find something better at this weekend vintage bike sale and the name biscayne seems to be relatively unknown.

I have an earlier Biscayne mixte called the Custom which was manufactured in 1985. The Trident is a newer bike. It should have a label on the seat tube below the front derailleur mount indicating it is from a store called "The Off Ramp". This is a Merida manufactured bike imported for "The Off Ramp" under the Biscayne name. It is a cro-moly frame.

If you want to know more about this bike, call the Santa Clara, CA "The Off Ramp" store and ask for Rob. He has been there 27 years and knows the history of these bikes. They were imported roughly from the late 70's to about 1995.

Mine has Araya rims, Suntour Honor rear derailleur, Suntour 7 front derailleur, Dia-Compe brakes. Dia-Compe brakes have a date code on the levers.

My wife's first "road" bike was a red biscayne trident. I still have it sitting mostly complete in the basement. When we found it, the twin "top" tubes to head lug joint looked like had never been brazed together! I'd be interested in hearing what you find out about it if you do any research.

That is strange. I wish I could remember more about what the store told me. Only that the Custom which I have preceded the Trident, but there was another model besides the Custom and Trident.

There was this Biscayne "Galaxy" model that sold on this thread, but I do not recall if the Galaxy came before the Trident.

My only complaint is that the Dia-Compe brakes have releases that do not allow the brake shoes to move far enough apart so I can remove the 27 1 1/4 tires and wheels for easy transport of the bike in the trunk. I have to let some air out of the tires. A 27 1 1/8 tire might work better but they seem a bit hard to come by.

I bought this as a used bike just to see if it was really that inconvenient to transport a full size bike rather than the Dahon folding bike I keep in the trunk now. I always keep an electric air pump in the trunk for the Dahon anyway.

I have one. it is a red road bike. It has shimano 600 hubs, headset, fd, and freewheel, but it has some hokey suntour stem shifters and rear derailleur. wobbler 27" clinchers, SR cranks, a technonomic stem, cinelli 66 bars. it 'a pretty decent bike except the tweaker suntour setup.

Very good!

Hey, my first car was a '63 Chevy Biscayne, and I lived in Miami at the time (I'm not sure what the significance is, just thought I'd share...).

This is the Biscayne Custom mixte. It had a bent derailleur hanger that caused it to want to skip the next to the smallest sprocket when going from the smallest up but worked fine in the other direction. Straightening the hanger solved the problem. The seatpost, seat, front rim, and campus pedals are not original equipment. The rear reflector is missing but other than that, it is what is was in 1985.

It has a Shimano freewheel with 13 to 28 teeth and front chainwheels of 40/52.
