Mystery Fuji -- please help id?

I got this Fuji frame from the doorman of my building $20, it's a pleasure to ride and I'm thinking about building it up fixed gear. The only reason I call it Fuji is because of the stamp on the fork, which appears to be original, a previous owner did a bad powdercoat job. Anyone know what model/year it might be?

SERIAL#: FJ108300

Thanks a lot and enjoy your riding! -- Craig

Bikes: Sakae Prism, Vintage Fuji bike(S), too many bikes, one from scratch bike.

It looks to be from the early 80's.

The dropouts and fork are identical to my Fuji, also a mystery bike. Is the headset a Vetta?

Unsure if the headset is a Vetta, but I have rebuilt it once and this is what it looks like. Thanks for your help, silversmith. Any similarity with the serial number on your bike?

What did you use to clean that headset? It looks great!

Oh yeah! It was so smooth when I put it back together. I used Dawn detergent, pedro's biodgreaser, a toothbrush and an exacto. I was so proud of myself when it worked and I saw how simple the mechanism is. Bikes rule...

I'm pretty sure I have a Fuji Palisade or perhaps a Saratoga. Anyone more experienced care to opine? I can provide more detailled photos if necessary.

Nice job on that head set.

If you clean and lube everythying else as well then you'll have a great bike.

Thanks very much, it took me a while since I was doing it for the first time, but the Zinn book really helped. I'm planning on turning Mystery Fuji into a flat-bar fixed-gear. I recently built a 1996 Cannondale race bike (below).
I bought the frameset on ebay for $150 and it's in great condition and parts I had from the Mystery Fuji. I used to ride this frame as a road bike and let me tell you it rides nice and smooth for me at 210... i believe in steel

Sorry I was not clear in the post. Was referring to the black Mystery Fuji with the steel thing. I also like the ride of the dale, just different

The headset is probably Tange; the tubes are probably Ishiwata - the steer tube will verify that bit.

Hey, Beaver

Hi,
My real name is Jim and I am curreently at Boy Scout summer camp - Camp Nanticoke, in Maryland.
The mosquitoes are quite thick just now; one of the smaller scouts was caarried away, kicking and screaming - quite the sight!!
The course I attended was in June 1982 - Leadership Development; our patrol is the Busting Beavers - we "bust" our tails. The camp where I took Wood Badge Basic was also at Camp Nanticoke - 24 years ago. This fall I'm going to the Blue Springs Gilwell Reunion, which is Northwest of Toronto about 20 miles.
This morning (6:30am) a group of "Aquamen" (senior scouts & me) are going by kayak to a retreat to have breakfast - away from the maddening noise of the dining hall.
Tell me about your current doings, Jim
