My wife has an uncle-in-law who's invested into distributing those bikes here in east TN. I haven't seen them in person - so no comment. My only comment to him was the (it was too tempting...), "yes, I chainless bikes at the dump all the time!"

The discussion comes up occasionally in another forum, and I believe someone there points out that there was a chainless bicycle as far back as the late 1890's (not even counting the high wheelers).

EDIT: A little background: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaft-driven_bicycle

Pair of early 70's Huffy Sportsman in the Cinci OH area. If memory serves, these are most likely re-badged Raleigh's.

1993 Kestral in Erie, Pa. They didn't list a price.

(ADD) I've e-mailed with the seler and even though he hasn't given me a price, he replied to my offer with a "if I parted it out, it'd be at least $600". Based on that, I assume he wants more than $600 for this bike.

Here is the ad:
"Here is a one of a kind opportunity to own a vintage US built carbon frame.
This bike has less than 150 miles on it! It was stored in a basement for 15 years and it is perfect. Has a very desireable perfect condition "special" turbo seat.

Looks like a 56 or 57 frame size. 32" standover.

Shimano 105 equipped. 7spd rear cassette"

May not be the deal of the century, but if I had the money I would pick it up today.

Vintage Medici Road Bike 55cm (Reading, PA)

For sale is a beautiful 1983 Medici Pro Strada. It is mechanically and cosmetically in excellent condition. I’ve had this bike for many years. It is a low mileage bike, so it is still quick and quite comfortable. With the exception of the brake levers, this bike is period correct with its Campagnolo Super Record group, Mavic tubular rims, Medici pantographed black anodized bar and stem and a Concor S. Marco Supercoursa leather saddle. Gommitalia Champion tubulars (not glued) are new and has a matching Silca pump which is top tube mounted. The Medici was painted in 1998 and has not been ridden since. It had a complete mechanical in 2007. Asking $900.

More of a vintage design (circa 1894) than vintage build, but intriguing nonetheless...has anyone here ever ridden one of these?

Absolutely! Just spoke with the seller. Bike is actually 49cm with Campi Nuovo Record derailleurs and crankset, Araya rims/Sugino hubs and has been serviced by seller. Probably sold by now.

The listing is gone... it was too small for me anyways... I'll just have to keep looking.

I spoke to a lady at a recent swap meet who had commuted 15 miles there on one. She seemed perfectly comfortable on it and said it was a great ride.
