Vintage Mongoose Bike - $50 (U-Village)

Greetings,

I am selling my Mongoose bike that I had as a kid. Sad to see it go, but it just takes up space. It is a Mongoose Chameleon Bike. Original everything, except the tires and is missing its seat. Check out the pics.

Doesn't add up. The title and description sounds as if someone with no idea about the machine parroted the lettering on the frame and components. Carbon Fiver? Trade for a beach cruiser? Just doesn't make sense - it sounds hot to me. Perhaps I'm reading more into it then there is.

I think you are reading too much into it. Plenty of people have no idea what bike they have. He posted pictures with phone number. Can't be too fishy.

Sounds fishy to me. "I"ve got this expensive bike that I don't know how to ride, so I want a cheap one and some drug money."

I think I agree (I was teasing about "carbon fiver"). Is it wrong to assume that someone who purchased a good bicycle with expensive components would be sufficiently informed as the value and significance of his own property? Or no? I should think the seller could at least copy the text from the bike frame correctly.

Yeah, but you missed the bars & stem.

250 for a freaking 70 Schwinn yellow (I picked one of these out of the garbage like 3 months ago and now I abuse it as a winter bike man what is the world coming too. I know this isn't a single speed forum but if these kids who keep buying these things and jacking up the price knew of republic bikes, I think we could all get back to our happy ways of $50.00 Schwinns.

It was probably solid rust when he found it, he had to do something to hide the rust. I guess a $.99 rattle can did the trick.

I had seen the same ad, and had the same reaction. Want a bargain? Some guy in Connecticut was trying to sell a powder blue pair for under $600. "Feast or Famine" .... $1,000 on e-bay, or free curbside on bulk pick-up day!

"Amazing bike" eh?
https://raleigh.craigslist.org/bik/1016009760.html
I don't care if they did in fact pay $250 for it all. Selling a 24" (wheel size) NEXT pos for $250 is plain stupid. Taking offers too...
*sigh* I think the Raleigh CL has some of the worst offenders for numbskullness (if that's a word).

Fixie cannondale. I guess the brifters are free with the purchase? You could get this bike for half price just by selling them? Of course if this numbskull knew much about bikes, he would know that. Change the bars, sell the brifters, and still sell the bike for $450. Not too smart if you ask me. Add to it that a Brooks saddle is listed as a part of the bike, then he comes back later and says sorry not included.,,,,BD

I believe the proper term is numbskullery, but I could be mistaken.

Actually, he said the saddle bag was not included. But yes, I agree with the rest.

If he is smart, he wouldn't own a Cannondale in the first place.

Did he maybe edit that in later? I remember reading it and didn't see the "bag" in there, either.
