And feel free to nominate me. I went to get more money, and the flea market guy sold it to someone else. Yeah, a late 80's Trek 400 road bike in like new condition for $65. Literally the only thing wrong was flat tires. No brake wear on the matrix 700's, no wear ANYWHERE!!! I feel like an idiot for being short $10. To top it all off, a wheel bearing AND the alternator went out on my car an hour after that. Insult to injury?? It's going to rain all weekend. I'm batting -100 today.,,,,BD

EDIT: My luck has improved!! I went to take the seat post out of my 11.8, loosened the clamp, and it wouldn't
budge. ((Par for the course, I thought to myself)) I sprayed a little PB on it, waited a second or two, and gave the nose of the seat a good whack with my hand. It spun about three inches, and then came right out.
:)

I've actually seen this happen to a lot of AMF girl's bikes, but usually it's not so pronounced.

thats actually a shame, its a cute bike, if it wasn't bent it would totally be worth $10.

Bikedued 06-24-07 10:00 AM

I bought a 1960's firestone girls bike with the same problem, also not as bad as that one.,,,,BD

cadillacmike68 06-24-07 08:13 PM

I see it all the time with "cannon" cameras as well

Those head tube lugs look very strange. My Mk V Pro has simple curved lugs with trialgle cutouts. It's not a Mk IV - those had partially chromed forks, maybe a Mk VI???

How can you tell it looks like bent forks, the spacing at the bottom of the headset - or is that a bent down tube i see as well ???

Bikedued 06-24-07 08:23 PM

If you're talking about the professional, the upper fork doesn't follow the head tube angle? I don't
see a bend in the down tube really?,,,,BD

Here's another one posted on Seattle CL, an otherwise bulletproof ladies Schwinn no less. What kind of hucking are these people doing?

"Two unique bicycles" ... (the seller's lack of details just invites his time being wasted, so I encourage you all to contact him -- out of curiosity). ;)

A custom built road bike which, about 30 years ago, cost me nearly $2,000. Very little use, very much dust. Also a one-of-a-kind, hand-built specialty bike. Set up as a time-trialer, but never used for competition. If you are seriously interested, I will give you all the details and make an appointment to show them. If you are just curious, please don't waste my time.

The handlebars on the Raleigh Pro do not look all that staight-on either, in the front shot. Maybe loose stem?

Here's my own craigslist ad:

Who Wants to Buy My Bike?

It's not really my bike, it's just a pic of a bike I saw on craigslist, a Raleigh Record. Usually they flag you if you point out flaws to unsuspecting consumers-- nice "community" there, craigslist -- but my ad seemed real enough, I guess. I even had a few offers! One craigslist reader "got it," and congratulated me for evading the censors.

It hard to tell but there looked like there was a bit of a gap at the bottom headset. Also, in the larger scale photo, the forks look like they are not lining up with the head tube, although that could be the tapered forks...

There's two members named Mongo. One is mongo, and the other is MONGO!. I'll bet they didn't know they had a bike named after them :D . MONGO! swears it's not a Blazing Saddles reference...

That ladies amf hawk? Well the owners convinced it's not damaged, since her local bike shop says so. Her local bike shop has probably been open for less than a year, and has techs who have never even seen an old three speed before. I told them to go to images.google.com and type in ladies bicycle, hehe. Of course they will probably find a damaged one and say SEE, here's another one made that way. lol.,,,,BD

This isn't necessarily the most idiotic ad I've seen, but I see ones like this a lot. No info in the title, no picture, no info in the post really, but wants $650? I'm sorry if I had that much cash to spend I wouldn't even think twice about an ad like that.

McDave 06-26-07 08:22 AM

Shoot, they gave the brand, model, and size. That's a lot more than many of them give. Here's an example...

Here's an odd one:

copy: "I want a cheep bike, Something like a Sears or JC Penny's from the 70's. But wait i am willing to buy one thats worth 20$ on a good day for $200."

We have a guy in Minneapolis who flips bikes but has a recyling/get the world cycling flavor to him. For some reason he stopped listing the specifics of the bikes so you have to email him, and then he directs you to his website. I don't know why, because he could at least put the size and model info in the ad and redirect the people who want to see a photo with a link.
