Here's a very clean little Motobecane mixte I pulled out of a neighborhood garage a few weeks ago. Date coded 1977 and made out of 1020 steel, it has Normandy hubs and Rigida Chromix steel wheels - but the shifters and dérailleurs are Suntour, as is the freewheel. And the BB is Japanese, as well.
Other than the 30 year old sticky, grimy layer of dust (that's now gone), it is almost as-new. Everything is original and shows negligible wear. The freewheel looks unused, the tape is original, and the bar end plugs and rear wheel nuts have the "M" monogram. The tires are the original Michelin's, as are the tubes - which seem to be holding air.
Take a look:

I've always loved the way Motobecane genrerally held back when it came to paint and decals.. they never did multicolor paint scemes and lots of decals and graphics... nice and simple.

That is a beautiful bike. I've really come to appreciate the mixte style. Oh well, time to start looking through the neighborhood garages.

Here's one I picked up not long ago on CL. With replacement of a Simplex shifter arm and a thorough going through the bike, this Moto is sweet! Check out the RD crash guard, the nice rack, and the chrome front fender! 1979 Moto. Love the mixtes. This smaller size should go quick.

Canadians call is boxing day as well. Although i believe it started in England. A tradition which was for the lords and ladies or other welltodos to box up the leftovers from christmas day (which were served by the servants) and bring it around back to your servants or other less fortunate individuals.

I think USAZorro was politely laughing at us Brits (and congeners) for thinking that England is (the only) civilised country ! For the record, I will expand the definition to include Canadians also.

On a second look, maybe it's not. We "yanks" call it "The day after Christmas." You can understand the confusion.

Double-tube fork on that blue moto mixte?
Mixter Hendricks-
Is that a double tube fork as one finds on a Humber? Or is it just a trick of the light, the paint, or a stylish deformity of the tubing?

( but I'd go for a nice whitbread tankard or any homebrew old ale about now).

I like beer both ways, it just depends on the beer. My dental hygiene is quite good though, must be my American half (my Dad is a septic). That said, I can pronounce herb, with all the letters in it, so maybe I'm more English......

herb? that was my long departed uncle, he had this distinct loathing for
bangers and mash, and having had them for 5 years in RSA I quite agree.
I really don't mind a good pint at basement temperature, prefer a bitter but an old ale will do.
hell even a cuppa would do right about now.
you ever ride in kettleworth? bronteland? looks like some of those climbs would be worse
than the koppenberg!

No, I'm a Southern Softie, and at 240lbs, I'm more of a sprinter than a climber, so all round, those big climbs are not for me. What's RSA?
