Thanks for the referral US Z. Velo29 PM'd me, and I found a bike his size the very next day. Amazing coincidence, since finding anything in that size is next to impossible around here. He's now the proud owner of an early 80's Bridgestone T500 touring bike. I hope he enjoys it, it really was in excellent condition. Just needs some cleaning, grease, tires, and maybe cables.,,,,BD

Cannondale used a thread-in shifter boss assembly. The Cannondale dealer I worked for back in 1990-1992 had a spare-parts supply from Cannondale that had had a few of them in it. Contact your local Cannondale dealer and ask if they still have one, or can get one.

Sob story:
I took my budget Centurion Cinelli build out for it's inaugural spin today. I was impressed until I hit a bump on a descent and heard the *pop*. Third time a spoke has broken on the rear wheel. I've had it into the LBS twice; the second time with a complete retensioning the tech was sure it would hold up. It didn't. I think I'm through with the wheel. So, I'm looking for something more sturdy or better built to replace it. I think it's a machine built wheel, Shimano 9 speed 105 hub laced to a 32 hole MA3 rim with 14G spokes. I'm looking for something similar (but better built) or higher quality, preferably 36H with butted spokes, silver rim/hub/spokes. Something sturdy enough to carry my 190 lbs around. Something with a good bit of life left. I'd also consider a complete wheelset if you have one available that you'd rather not split. I'd also consider a Campagnolo Athena or higher 8 speed wheel, with the above preferences. My setup is Campy 8 speed ergos with Shimano 7 speed cassette, so Campy 8 speed would work. Thought I'd give recycling a try before buying something new. |

Thought I'd give recycling a try before buying something new. I am thinking that the problems you are having are more related to the wheelbuild itself as opposed to the rim and hub combination. A well-built 32 hole wheel will hold up fine - 190lbs is not heavy. As you said, the wheel is machine-built, which generally isn't as good as a wheel which has had the building care and love of an actual human being. I would keep the hub and relace it to another rim, or even reuse the rim if it isn't very warped - laying it on a flat surface after you've unlaced it will give you the best idea. I don't have anything to offer you, but I'm sure someone else here does. Be patient. |
