Looking to join the Classic and Vintage club. I just wanted to thank you guys for all the great info I have been reading so far. I am not sure where I want to start though. Back in the day I purchased new a 1982 Trek 520 and have very fond memories of that bike so that is one option. Another option is a lightweight "race" bike. I have a neighbor who has a some NOS benotto frame and forks from the early to mid 90's. His one 54cm frame is built with Columbus SL and is a really pretty frame. He also has lots of nos period campy so I am thinking maybe I should take advantage of his inventory and build up a NEW mid 90's Benotto. Anyway......looking forward to being able to share my ride with you guys soon.

Bikes: Nishiki Nut! International, Pro, Olympic 12, Sport mixte, and others too numerous to mention.

Just remember--whatever you do, must be accompanied by photos.

If you don't provide photos, we won't let you in .

Just kidding of course, but we do like photos.

I am camera happy so that will not be a problem. Deciding what I want and what I can afford will be the problem.

I'll get you started. You want a Schwinn Paramount.

I have ALWAYS wanted a Paramount. I recall when I was riding back in the early 80's I thought the guys that had the Paramounts were the schit.

There ya go!

You are now on a quest for a Schwinn Paramount. What size? Is chrome all right? Budget?

54cm. Chrome would be ok but would prefer paint with chrome lugs If I am correct the Paramount was available in both Touring geometry and a more aggressive geometry. I am definitely not looking for a touring bike. I want something that when the mood moves me, I can take it on my club hammer rides just for a change. Campy is a definite plus. Budget......depends on the bike but I may spend up to $1,000.

All right everyone! You heard the man. He promised us photos, too. Let's see what we can find.

Oh, any year in particular?

Beware . . . once you start, it gets out of hand quite easily. Replacing your Trek, for sentimental reasons sounds like a good place to start. The Benotto also sounds like a good choice because you have a readily available source of parts. Why don't you do both?

Welcome! Good to see another Tennessee member. I check Craigslist all the time, and will go ahead and let you in on something. There is a guy in Memphis who apparently finds old lower end bikes, refurbishes them, and sells them for rather expensive amounts. In his defense, they do look really nice. But they almost always seem quite overpriced. Nothing against the guy of course, he's just trying to get back what he's put into them. And some of them are more what I would call "entry level" than low end. I looked earlier and he had a very nice looking '80s Peugeot. https://memphis.craigslist.org/bik/346490648.html

I have kept an eye on his page for some time. He actually has what looks like a pretty nice centurion right now as well as that Peugeot. I think I am shooting for something a bit nicer though. I am in no huge hurry and what I really want is either a Masi or a Colnago. I am just not ready to "settle" quite yet. East Hill has lit that Paramount fire also .....and then there is that NOS Benotto I mentioned earlier.....
Lamplight....Where in TN are you located?

Love the "Nice" sticker......LoL...NOTE: I just googled "Peugeot Nice" I guess it belongs there. I thought it was covering up a rust spot.

I'm just outside of Nashville. Occasionally I like to look at bikes in other cities that aren't too far away just in case I find something worth driving that far for. By the way my brother has an old Colnago but I doubt there's any way he could be talked out of it.

I spent 1/2 that to get this 1978 Paramount. (One of 3 that I own - two racers and a tourer with eyelets). I'm debating taking it out on my weekly 50miler tomorrow...
