Bottecchia Help
My uncle has an older bottecchia made with columbus cromor tubing. I know this is middle of the road tubing by columbus and I think the frame is from the late 80's. It has mostly campy parts, I was wondering if they came stock with campy and what model ? Is there a model name for that Bottecchia. It has a Carnielli handmade sticker on it and also a couple of campione del mondo stickers on it. I want to restore it and any info would be great.

Bikes: 1959 Bottecchia Milano-Sanremo (frame), 1966 Bottecchia Professional (frame), 1971 Bottecchia Professional (frame), 1973 Bottecchia Gran Turismo, 1974 Bottecchia Special, 1977 Bottecchia Special (frame), 1974 Peugeot UO-8
T-Mar would be the man with the answers but an educated guess would be that it has Campagnolo Victory or Triumph components to go with the Cromor frame and yes, they are probably original. Got any pictures you could post? Does it look something like this bike on https://www.fhsu.edu/biology/cbennett/bicycles.html?

Bottechia also marketed a Chorus equipped Cromor frame in the late 1980s. It was called - wait for it - Bottechia Cromor Chorus. This seemed to trend at the time, naming the model based on the tubeset and groups.
The group could also be Victory or Triomphe, as stated by K89, so pics would aid in identifying the group. Bottechia won World's Championship in 1985, 1986 and 1989, so knowing the most most recent World Championship date on the decal would aid in dating the frame.

Sorry camera is not working, but the campione del mondo is 1966-1985-1986 and there is also a campione italiano 1964-65-66-85. I guess that means it is probable either 87 or 88'. Some campy info the brakes have a C in a diamond on the release and aero seatpost.

It could aslo be a 1989, as the World Championships take place near the end of the season, but then it should also have a Carnielli 80th anniversary decal. If there's no 80th anniversary decal then it should be 1987 or 1988.
Perhaps we can narrow down the group literally. The Chorus derailleur has a dropped, horizontal paralleogram. One of the brake arms is forked with the other arm passing through it. Neither Victory or Triomphe have these features.
If it does not have these features, then it likely Triomphe or Victory. Victory has drilled brake levers while Triomphe does not. Triomphe also has a slight flar to the top of the crankset's spider arms, just before it attachs to the chainrings, Victory has straight sided spider arms.

Did they mix groups up, because it looks like a chorus derailleur and triomphe brakes. I am confused by what you said about the crank, it look like it flares slightly so it is triomphe ? The back hub has a cone shape on the side opposite the deralleur and front hub is thicker than back. I don't know if that helps, but thanks for all your effort. Also the fork is painted and has a B on the crowns. Do the codes on the cranks tell you what group, I know the crank arm lenght is on it and there is also the number inside a square.
Thanks alot,
Gregg

While it would be rare for Bottechia to mix Chorus with Triomphe or Victory, it would not surprise ne if the original owner upgraded Victory or Triomphe with a Chorus rear derailleur. For reference, attached are group pics, courtesy of the Campy Only website. Hopefully, they will help.

T-Mar your help has been awesome. Thoose pictures are a great help. What years are those from ? There is definitely a mixture of campy parts on the bike. A few more questions and I will leave you alone. The rear derailleur is black with the campy written on it so maybe earlier. The hubs are my main interest, I think maybe he added on later. The front hub has a 1" circumference fatter than either chorus or record shown in the picture I think he add on later and the rear hub has a cone shape on the release side. Last question why is it so hard to find good info on the web about campy part especially pictures? Again that for you help and patince with me.
Thanks,
Gregg
p.s. I found the front hub marked with record on the bearing cap. So what year did they make a fatter record front hub.

Gregg

The oversize Record front hub came out about 1999. The Chorus page is from 1987 and the others are from 1986.
Your Google question actually reminded of a good source, created for just that purpose, by one of our members, Cuda2k. It's called VeloBase.com . He hasn't been at it for too long, so it's far from complete, but you can filter based on brand and component type, so you could just look at all the Campagnolo rear derailleurs if that is what you were trying to match. Given that your bicycle appears to be a real mismatch of components, VeloBase may be your best bet pending pictures.
Once you narrow things down, I'm sure Kommisar89 will be interested in the results And he will still want pictures.

I know I ask you alot but what do you think a bottechhia cromor(in good shape)with miss match campy parts is worth. I am trying to figure out if it's worth my time and effort. Should I take the parts off and get a different frame. I will check out that web page.

As Kommisar 89 istates, it will depend on your intentions. The other big factor will be the exact mix of components. You really should borrow a camera to post some pics. That way, we will know for sure what we are dealing with.
