*cry*

true, true. I don't think the headtube has been moved enough to affect the steering, but it definitely is bent.

Yeah, but you have to keep the tweed seat cover on it.

cudak888 11-04-08 10:28 AM

It isn't a Schwinn, that's for sure. Murray, I'd guess.

treebound 11-04-08 10:35 AM

Are you sure it isn't a Schwinn? Sure looks like the large oval white Schwinn headbadge peeking around the corner of the headtube there.

ps, and I've got a tweed cap at home that would go well with the seat cover, so I'd still take it. :)

pps, and I'd probably have to keep the kiddie seat on it and strap in a stuffed teddy bear with a tweed vest.

It might be a Vista also, they used a Schwinn-like headbadge.

It's a Schwinn, will look at date code tomorrow, and take better pic also. The handlebar is lying on the floor beside it. Last month we had a vintage Schwinn Fleet, and very good condition. That bike went to a older feller looking to regain his childhood bike again.

I am I correct about the year? It has a label that inidicates it is a Gazelle built Raleigh, which I believe narrows it down to '71 - '74. The serial number is on the bb and is 270216. Based on what I read about the Raleigh numbers, I guessed it must be 1972. There is a 1972 Raleigh catalog on Retro Raleighs that lists the Simplex Prestige derailleur for the Gran Prix on the specifications page. The front derailleur and shifters are also matching Simplex parts, so I tend to think they are original to the bike.

Anyway, thanks for your offer, but I already have a good Suntour VGT Luxe in the parts bin that I'll probably try on it first.

Your probably pretty close.

I had a 1978 raleiogh Grand Prix (as confirmed by the original sales recipt that I had!). It had a full suntour group on it, with the shifters on the stem. This change happened in the 1976 range.

Yours having cottered cranks, simplex, and the shifters on the downtube, pre-dates that. So my best guess would be between 1970 - 1975. Nice find though!

That's all fine and dandy but you didn't get it at the dump...
Like this one I picked up Tuesday ;)

That's too good to have been dumped. Looks hot, especially with that jack-@$$ed front brake.

Dunno What It Is

Im not sure what kind of bike this is, but it has Shimano Golden Arrow components Except for the shifters and the crank. I found it with no bearings in the front hub, shredded rear tire and tube. It was a cheap fix and it rides great. Any ideas on the frame, lemme know.

cudak888 11-06-08 11:10 PM

Looks like that fake Nervex lug set seen on the Windsors...

-Kurt

randomchad 11-06-08 11:18 PM

if i post a pic of the lugs, can you tell?

Getting there on my Proflex dumpster find. Had a local swap meet this weekend and got myself a bunch of stuff cheaply. Found the rear elastomers from rapid descents Scottland. Anyway, here is the before:

How is it going my fellow bike rescuers, this is my first time here and this seems like the place for me to hang out in the C&V section. My Name Is Glenn and I have a Problem I can't stop picking up bicycles out of the trash or yard sales. I will share some photos of just a couple of finds as I have to many to list.
Found this in the trash, needs a little tlc and a new freewheel or cassette(its locked up)
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/P6080016.jpg
this schwinn cost me $2 at a yard sale it's a 1979 with 24" wheels and will clean up nice got some Goodyear whitewalls for already.
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/P6080019.jpg
Found this Bianchi in the trash 10 years ago and put it in the attic of my shop and forgot about it,has a nice set of Mavic wheels and is a 12 speed bike. Paint is in bad shape but every thing else is in good shape and will clean up.I just picked up a Bianchi pista that rides but the paint is horrible condition and someone replaced the rear wheel with a new junk china piece.
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/P6080031.jpg
Found this sport in the trash needs alot of tlc but is complete.
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/P6080022.jpg
found this in the trash with a bunch of others 24" frame going to set it up for a buddy thats 6'2".
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/P6080023.jpg
this is the rest of the stuff I found with the Diamondback I have the wheels for them around here somewhere.
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/P6080038.jpg
I got this Schwinn years ago for $12 at auction and I put a lot of miles on it before putting it up in the attic at my shop needs a real good cleaning and polish job but it did clean up nice before.
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/P6080027.jpg
And this is a bike I really fell in love with at a auction and I paid $12 for this to, it is a Swiss Army Bike by Condor(not army issue) it was in great shape. The only parts left on it that came with it stock are the wheelset and handle bars everything else has been upgraded to suit my needs as I use this to go freshwater fishing(it now sports a rod holder and a adjustable stem with a headlight). It is a blast to ride everything I removed is boxed up and being saved should I want to put it back to original.

Welcome Glenn. You'll fit in just fine around these parts.

Glennfordx4 11-15-08 07:41 PM

Thanks for the warm welcome CB400bill I have spent a day here just surfing and really enjoy this site I wanted to show a few more pics of a few bikes I picked up this time last year that were going to be junked:)
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...pics728112.jpg
There were over 300 bikes at a auction that nobody wanted and I mean a lot of high end stuff so I had no choice but to take as much that could be salvaged about a hundred and ten of um came home with me.
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...pics728109.jpg
and some more.
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...pics728111.jpg
and some more even yet.
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...pics728107.jpg

The people running the auction thought I had a bike shop and you should have seen their faces when I told them that I didn't and was only there to look for a new ride for the wife and myself.I have about 50-60 bikes left out of all of that but I have parts galore.

cb400bill 11-15-08 07:51 PM

What are the high end bikes?

mastronaut 11-15-08 07:58 PM

Holy bike pile! I wish I had that kind of selection in my neck of the woods! Dang...
Here's one I picked up a couple months ago, a Motobecane Gran Jubilee, needed a seat that's it.
