Not sure if this one counts, but it is steel, horizontal dropouts, etc. It may have originally had STI/Ergos, I don't know. This started life as a Bertoni, fillet brazed Columbus Max tubing. Interesting bike for which I can not find much information...maybe it warrants its own thread. This was repainted somewhat recently (not by me) with amix of gray, brown & orange with some heavy metal flake. This is a GREAT riding bike. I can say this: if you happen upon one of these Bertoni Max tubing bikes, buy it.

I have liked the way this Team Miyata rides a lot. It is pretty well worn and does look it but after the 200 k brevet I did on it with friction shifting I decided to set it up with ergo's. So here it is, an 87 frame wirh Chorus 8 speed brifters. Did the 300 k brevet on it last sunday and it is a great bike for long distance riding.

The Miyatas seem to be multiplying -- must be because you got it wet ("Gremlins" reference for the less 80's movie inclined).

The Shim/ergo mullet. Have any of you opted for business friction DT/bar-end shifters in the front and a brifter party in the back? For the times when you'd like to keep your vintage French crankset in the mix. Plus, you can get NOS Sora right shifters for about $30 on eBay. I'm considering it, but I'd like to see a non-hideous example first.

Not sure how to build a non-odds example, but it's been used, of course, in the TdF. I once bought a TT bike that had a R bar end and L DT shifter. It looked silly.

Not a retro bike but my Volpe is setup this way. I'll let others judge the hideous-ness.

Ha! Yes, unicycles look ridiculous to most but are so much fun to ride that you don't worry about it.

He Who Shall Not Be Named raced the Alpe d'Huez in 2001 or so with one DT shifter and Shimano 600 aero brake lever because it was lighter than the DA brifter.

The sun finally came out in the UK, so I took my 1987 Ron Cooper Columbus SL (major revamp last year) on its first ride of the year over Box Hill (2012 Olympic road race route). Overtook a fair amount of carbon bling on the way up!

Put a bunch of miles on this one since completing it a week ago. All 105 10 speed double on a freshly powder coated '87 Schwinn Super Sport frame.

Very smooth:

Thanks for the kind words. This was intended to be a reverse-color 10 speed takeoff on the all black 9 speed one that I built a year ago that has proven to be so fast and comfortable. So, more colorful, easier to see in the dawn and dusk hours, less evil & more playful, etc. Actually took some extensive advance planning for the build, as even the decals were custom cut and colored for it: notice the orange stripe under the Super Sport logo on the top tube? The white Odyssey Par Ends? Could have used polished versions of the same components, but with all of the orange stuff I thought it looked too flashy-blingy. But I do have some orange bottle cages coming over from the UK.

Colors are the same as our 11-person BikeMS team jerseys, and the BikeMS logo also has orange and white in it, so I will likely ride this in the BikeMS 150 in June here in the DC area. Even though that saddle was on my now-departed titanium GT, I had some concerns about using it for such long rides, as visually it has awesome asshatchet potential. No problems on 50+ mile rides, but I may swap it out for a thin black Schwinn Cionlli like on the black bike for the long mileage day.

Ultimately, this one may hang around the stable for a while. Some bikes just speak to you & this one does to me.
