The kit was Peter's choice, except for the saddle. In 2014, after a 25 year hiatus, I was looking for something with modern training wheels to start working out on. So, I took the bike out of storage, stripped it, sent it to Belmont and one thing led to another. The original plan was current 105, but they had all this nice old stuff sitting around. Never having ridden a modern bike, it was an amazing change, but, for some reason, I'm slower than I was on the original Nuovo and 72 spokes.

hmmm. some dude once said that "taste" is one of the few things that actually is individual. .. not feeling the black on pink! but if she rides it at all you are doing better than most of us who build a bike for our sig other.

Thanks, guys.
Long legs, mainly; look how short the top tube is. She was about 5'10" and wore 26:34 Levis 501s with the button fly (OMG, the memories!), back when that bike was built. Sic transit gloria mundi and all that. Yes, it is wonderful to have a partner with a similar idea of fun, but that's one of the main things that's kept us tight for 39 years.

Here is an 85 univega viva sport that had a decent dent in the top tube and surface rust here and there. Nice guy at the body shop agreed to spray the frame for free (same color as my car), so I went for it. Here it is built up on the cheap. 8 speed RX100 kit came off a broken frame from cl, Nashbar carbon fork, cheap ebay headset ... feels great. Saddle will be replaced by either Brooks B17 in garage, or WTB Pure V Team, which I love. May peel a few stickers off of those wheels.Just took it out to pick up some Indian food, feels great.

1989 Bridgestone RB-1. Ultegra 6600 10-speed. Just finished building it in the last week or so. I took the components from my carbon wunderbike (e.g. Trek 5200).

I got this 1986 Schwinn Peloton frame from @wrk101 in a horse trade. It's a 25"er made of SL and SP, brazed by Panasonic in Japan.
Parts mix was some recycling but a lot of it was purchased just for the build.
Front to back:
-Craigslist Shimano RS20 Wheelset with 10s peed cassette and Schwalbe Lugano 23c tires. Appear to be takeoffs from a Cannondale Synapse. Easily as fat as most 25's. I'll see how they compare to my beloved Gatorskin Contis.
-Tektro interchangeable model dual pivots fitted with Koolstop pads
-Jagwire cable kit
-Origin 8 quill adapter, Titec Hellbent Stem (120, 0 degree), and the wonderful but now discontinued IRD Blackbird Comp handlebars. Origin8 twintape, 105 5700 series STI shifters
-Cinelli Vai seatpost holding up a Kore Retrobu (Turbo clone) saddle
-FSA Gossamer 50/34 crankset
-Microshift "White" derailleur set. 100 percent Shimano compatible.
-My original Look PP66 pedals from Walt's Bike Shop back in college. They've been regreased and been through a few sets of cleats since 1990 but they're STILL the gold standard in clipless pedals.
It came in at 22.5 lbs, which is quite respectable given the size of the frame an that I made no weight-weenie parts choices. As a Clyde, I go for durability over minimal gram count.
Verdict: Fast and neutral handling. I normally ride a 60-61, so this is slightly big and or "French Fit" but the shorter top tube of the 80's Schwinns ends up giving me a fit very similar to my 60cm 2000 Reynolds 853 Peloton.
Now that it's done, it's on to the next project...here's a tease:

Super Schwinn. I continue to be impressed by that string of hits from Japan by Schwinn. Prelude, Prologue, Tempo, et all. Just a fun bunch. Great combination of colors. Those red Tektro's are ace. Great balance of 3 colors.
I see the D'Back.

This is a project I've been working on for a while, mostly parts that I got either for free or very inexpensively. The frame is right at the limits of what I'm able to stand over, but it makes it quite easy to get the bars at the right height. It's also got a sufficiently short top tube for me to ride it comfortably. I took it for a couple quick test rides last night to get a sense of the overall feel, but today was the first real ride, and it's seen about 40 miles so far.

Vintage upgrading advice
This is my first post/reply so I hope I am replying to this thread correctly...
I'm looking for any tips or advice on updating a vintage woman's road bike. Eventually I'll be using it for semi-longer distances for some (I hope) S24O rides.
Specifically any thoughts on -
Thanks very much for any advice!
I'm looking for any tips or advice on updating a vintage woman's road bike. Eventually I'll be using it for semi-longer distances for some (I hope) S24O rides.
Specifically any thoughts on -
- What are some ideal models to keep an eye out for on craigslist
- What components would I prioritize and look to first upgrade
- Are there ideal tires and/or wheels that I might look to use (for a combination of roads and rail trails, so some possible light gravel)
Thanks very much for any advice!

Thank you. I've already got an emerald green 1987 Paramount with Mavic 8 speed SSC (Shifted by Campy 10 Ergos). The 1988 Prelude is coming up next and will be fitted with some new Tiagra and a lot of parts-bin stuff. My son has an Aluminum 534 and a PDG Series 7 650c...both of them came from @RobbieTunes. He also has a late 80s Schwinn Sierra MTB with the U-brake! The daughter has a Tiagra/Veloce 1987 SuperSport. And the Mrs. has a 46cm Waterford-built Paramount in Purple Haze on 650c wheels.
I've seen very few Pelotons of the Reagan era listed just as framesets. Most folks want high dollar for them with the original Superbe Pro and tubulars. It's often cheaper to get cosmetically challenged Waterford-made Paramount and refinish it than getting a Peloton.
