Well, you should've said so before you spoke! ;)

Very nice job on that SR, Shoota.

I knew it was a C'dale, just wanted to poke a little fun.
With 9-sp DA, has to be a light, agile ride, and he's painstakingly built it.

I know what it's like to spend hours and tedious time, plus the waiting for parts,
and then some guy asks a question like that.

I have acquired the same taste in a very similar bike.

I've not advertised it locally one bit, and now have 3 people after it.

Still, I'd not be surprised if someone actually asks him that question.
For some folks, the look of smooth filed joints can only mean: Electro-Forged!

Thanks rc, that means a lot coming from you. In full disclosure I'm having a heck of a time getting the derailleurs dialed in. The rear doesn't want to shift through the middle three gears very smoothly and skips randomly and the front will overshift the chain in between the large ring and arm.. boo.. I know it's just my skills (or lack of) because I had it shifting fine when it was 1x9, maybe I should have left it like that :)
Anyways, robbie I wish it were light. I think it's still right around 22lbs which makes me want to cry honestly. But I still have a few things to get installed :) Can't wait to see your project.

if you've got the cable tension adjusted already by using the barrel adjuster, and it is only shifting poorly on this part of the cog, you may want to have derailleur hanger alignment checked / adjusted.

limit screws. particularly, tighten the high (outer) limit screw on the front derailleur.

oh yeah, btw, nice bike. i'm usually not a fan at all of the fat-tube vintage aluminium roadies aesthetically, but you look like you've really got it dialed as a bike to be ridden hard. love the romin, too-- my favorite saddle i've found so far.

Awesome job on the Battaglin. One of my favorite component groups of all time.

Glad you're enjoying it!

gomango 06-08-13 06:21 PM

Love it.

Let her rip!

Btw How do you like the Clements?

Only 10 miles on it so far, but the Clements are great. Mounted really easily, weigh a modest 270g for a 28c. Incredibly smooth rolling at 85/90psi. The skinwall version should be out by the end of the month, but I'm glad I didn't wait for them for this build. My last 700c tires were Ruffy Tuffy's and these Clements are far superior.

Sounds good.

Maybe I'll try some next season.

Let's try to do a Twin Cities ride this summer.

I thought I'd try out this STI thing finally and I was in need of a road bike anyway since I passed my too-small one on to my sister. The frame isn't anything top shelf but it's by far the nicest one my possession right now. I used an eclectic mix of tricolor parts and some ultegra as well to run a 9 speed setup. I haven't decided on a colour for bartape yet... wavering between black, grey and green of all things. I fired around the block on it a few times and it's over-geared for my poor knees but it rides lovely. I think there is enough room for slightly larger tires than the 25 that are on there right now. I plan on breaking it on a good ride as soon as the rain passes this week.

Ooooh, very nice. That color combo looks awfly close to my Panasonic. I am in the midst of refinishing it right now but should have it together by end of week. I'll post pics up when it's done! :)

PhilPub 06-10-13 02:16 PM

^ Very smart! If I hadn't re-sprayed my bike red and blue (club colours) it may have ended up orange. Personally I think I'd just go with white bar tape to bring out the decals, and let the orange frame stand out on its own.

Mike552 06-10-13 03:06 PM

Yup, I agree with PhilPub. I'm going with white saddle/white bar tape combo on my orange bike.

Velognome 06-10-13 06:23 PM

I'm really appreciating the conversions shown here and I'm now seriously thinking about it. One question for now. The frame I'm considering was originally configured as a 2x4 or 5, no hanger on the dropout. I'll have to use a claw hanger since the paint and chrome are intact, will using a claw hanger and an indexed derailleur be an issue?

himespau 06-10-13 07:31 PM

I have used (and plan to use again when I get it painted) a not quite vintage 6 speed mtb that had a tourney claw derailleur and it worked just fine with 6 speed indexed shifters (105 dt) until an incident at a bike rack at work where I came back to find both of my derailleurs bent up. Just went to friction and didn't look back rather than try unbending, but I'm going to try 8 speed soon.

Chrome Molly 06-10-13 07:59 PM

[QUOTEwill using a claw hanger and an indexed derailleur be an issue?[/QUOTE]

Nope, no issues. I brifterized a 72 Super Sport using a similar method. As long as the limits are forgiving on the particular RD used, shouldn't be an issue.

Velognome 06-10-13 08:33 PM

^ Any RD recommendations with "forgiving" limits? Not too concerned with the cost so fire away.

hhliao 06-10-13 09:47 PM

Bought the frameset off of ebay. The seller stated that it was a 85 Corsa Extra repainted in 7-11 color. The serial number and the rifling in the seat tube seems to corroborate the claim. Built with Shramnolo parts....

+1, very slick indeed, llhiao. I dig the front DT shifter as well. Very 7-11/Motorola of you. Is that a Ti stem? Total weight?
