New commuter / all-weather Trek build! Moved over most of the components from my Univega, added a newly-built dynamo wheel and lights, as well as Shimano 57mm mid-reach brakes to fit the fenders & 700x28+ tires. Ready for fall and winter adventures!
'87 Trek 330 Elance frame & fork. Handling and geometry numbers are in road bike territory, in terms of fork rake, frame angles, chainstays, etc; not touring or 'sport touring' really, just a road bike with enough clearance for fenders :thumb:. More photos and details on the dynamo setup here. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8613/...c2530cc9_c.jpg |
^Bravo Tamaso!

Oops! Forgot to post the final pics of the '93 RB-1 8 speed. Everything purchased separately over a several year span to wind up with one that was equipped pretty close to original:

Really dig the 93 RB1.

Really nice job on the RB-1.

I had to completely disregard Shimano for this reason when I revamped my Ron Cooper a couple of years ago. (Shimano cranks were even uglier then than they are now!) Some people swear by Campag Athena silver cranks for a classic look, but I decided that the SRAM Force cranks were just as nice, if you don't mind a bit of carbon. (The shape of the cranks and rings is still pretty classic, compared to the more modern looking SRAM Red cranks.) If anything I think the latest version is slightly less attractive, but this is the SRAM Force 2010 I have on mine.

I've come to this conclusion as well. I've come across his stuff on ebay and CL over the years. Never seen restorations/rebuilds more impressive (or more ludicrously expensive).

His market bears it. I'd send him my bikes to sell, but they'd be ashamed to be in the same building as his!

This topic inspired me for classic looking road bike. So there is what I have built.

Welcome to the forum, and what a great build.
In my experience, photos don't do those colors/chrome justice. I'll bet it's super nice in person. Very nice setup, especially looks good for riding tops and drops. You don't see that very often. Classic bike, great retro/STI build. This is a great thread, continuously. |
I just went back through the last couple of pages. The stunners just keep coming! It doesn't matter if it is one with a garish paint job like the Repco or the Bottecchia. Or one of the solids like the RB-1, the Trek or the Coppi. They are all great! Great job people!

Thanks alot guys! It is really very comfortable bike indeed. For summer it will be equipped with spds. For now left those mks pedals on because lack of overshoes in near freezing temperatures makes riding it fast but unpleasant experience.

My friend Kirk rescued a Tommaso from being tossed.
He's done very well at it, just waiting on new decals. The weight, wow; it's a beauty. He could easily go lighter, but heck, at 19.2 lbs, already right there with anything. http://i.imgur.com/3IKvHMs.jpg?3 http://i.imgur.com/NmzUgHX.jpg?1 |
