The jersey is roughly the same vintage as the bike.

Nice, I have a similar Schwinn with a slightly different red/white/red fade (Prologue, and same year I just found out - was sold to me as '88 but code on the badge puts it '87). I just got mine, and its still all original. But thinking about doing a few upgrades. For one the old rims are starting to develop a couple tiny fractures around spokes so thinking about a modern rim, and brifters or maybe even aero bars with shifters on them. Still undecided, and a bit overwhelmed with all the bike tech and lingo! But slowly learning what my options are and how to do it.

First time I've ever seen Celeste look sinister, or say "spank me."

Excellent.

I'm not doing it justice, Robbie... I know it's a little small for you, but you know you want to own it :) I'll give you a great price since you've helped so much over the years.

Decided to make one final update to the Ironman. Since I like riding it more than any of my other bikes, I put the 11 speed 105 groupset that I purchased for another bike on it. And some sub 1300 g clinchers.

I'll second that. That is HOT!

It's been too long since I had something new to post in this thread, so here it is...

Condor 731os frame, partial fillet brazed that came to me almost new (it was built up but never ridden). So I put a mix of old and new Campy on it, and got something as close to the "other option" I was going to have Dave Anderson build for me as I could find. Pardon the indulgence on the pictures...

And so it goes, with a life of it's own, the "knowledge" gained, the movement proceeds.
The cult is alive and doing quite well. All is right with the world.

Any road.
Anywhere.
Anytime.
Ironman.

Wow. 10 days past gorgeous.

Italuminium 05-10-15 11:54 AM

Ye gods that condor is gorgeous. How's the brake performance? I've had bad luck matching modern campy levers to old brakes...

They take a firm hand but I'm used to them as I have the same setup on my trek 760. Once the pads bed in a little it should be fine. Not like modern dual pivots but not bad either.

Go ahead, call it a "witch's brew" when she's around. You have free medical.

Cool build, and probably qualifies as cool in her world, as well.
Plus, "my dad built it."

I agree on the "small hands" stuff.
Campy makes a piece that adapts, not sure if they do for Veloce.

That admits it. There are more, trust me.

Just modernized this Cannondale for a friend who's roommate abandoned it...

Kind of a beater / commuter / rain bike.

finishing my new one very soon. I'm excited to ride, and share.

treebound 05-16-15 07:26 AM

I think I've posted this one before, Colnago Master Light, it is currently set up on the trainer down in the basement trying to get the brifter for the rear functioning again, Shimano 600 8speed. When this happens I start thinking of converting to Campy, then I start pricing stuff, then start thinking of going 10speed on it, then back to pricing, then give up and go back to spraying the brifter trying to get it to shift happy again. Then I start thinking the paint job is too flamboyant and flashy, then I start liking the paint, then get conflicted on if I like it or not, then I realize I'm thinking too much and I just need to go for a ride. Then things get focused on clothing options and the need to get new cycling shorts this year, then I make a cup of coffee or tea and think jeans are just fine and go back to thinking that I just need to go for a ride. But now we're baby sitting a grandkid so a ride is out, so I just come here and ramble on and post a pic. Riding in my daydreams.

ps: I've been informed that we're going to a Polka Festival today, time to shop for a polka-dot jersey.

Thanks for the compliments for my Pinarello Montello. I bought the frame last year and built it with all new components - the idea being to make it look old from a distance but when you looked closely it was all modern stuff, except the fram of course. I was also a bit tired of every bike you see these days being mostly black. I call this colour scheme red white and chrome.

Here are the details:

Frame: Late 80’s Pinarello Montello (Columbus SLX tubing)
Groupset: Campagnolo Athena 11 sp (with ultra torque crankset)
Wheels: H Plus Son Archetypes on Novatec hubs (Campy copies)
Tyres: Vittoria Open Corsa SC
Seatpost: Nitto S83
Saddle: Selle San Marco Regal ( I have a RegalE on my carbon roadie)
Headset: Campagnolo Record
Stem: Nitto Dynamic
Handlebars: Nitto B136

and here are some up to date pictures although I have to say it looks better in the flesh.

Sweet! Did you have the frame cold-set to 130? You know Cinelli reissued their quill stem and 64 bars - would look perfect on the Pin!

Hi

The frame was already 130 so that was good. I looked at the Cinelli quill stems but they appeared to have a milky anodized finish rather than silver. I am happy with the Nitto bits.

Mike, it's actually pretty easy to rebuild these 600 shifters, I did it with the help of this great wordpress site. I went for an overhaul instead of just a spray-and-pray. I didn't go as far taking the entire mechanism apart, just pulled out the mech, cleaned it with some WD-40 for the hard bits and some white spirits and a few minutes in the ultra sound for the internals, and then applied fresh grease.

Was the Ultra Torque (or Power Torque) install plug and play - bottom bracket compatible and all?

growlerdinky 05-19-15 11:06 AM

after a few miles... new tape, bars and stem. Its going to get new wheels in the next few months. H plus Son TB14s in hard anodized, White Industries T11s in silver.

Build looks great - the old style Cinelli bars don't transition well to new Campy 11spd levers either so the Nitto bars are a really good option - retro enough styling and bend with nice flat transitions and beautiful finish - went same approach with my De Rosa
