[QUOTE=rowebr;19455223]Does a bike with 10-speed indexed downtube shifters belong here? I say yes! Here is the latest version of my 650B Bianchi.QUOTE]

Hmm, getting banned from this thread does give me a good excuse to post pictures of the offending bike in other threads!

I think what we really need is a dedicated thread for bikes with anachronistic indexed downtube shifters.

87 Schwinn Circuit (repaint), with 10spd 105, some generic Shimano parts, Miche Supertype, and some NOS Cinelli bits, too.
Saddle is only on there till the good one comes in! https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3754/3...bb87a559_b.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2834/3...ab0a2106_b.jpg |
Whoa! I know what I'd rather be riding on Halloween. Or maybe just about any other day, as well :thumb:
Black saddle shouldn't be too hard to find for that thing. I'm pretty sure they make saddles in black ;) |

Got this '82 Columbine off ebay a few years back with a non-matching fork and crappy peel-off paint. Finally got around to sorting it out. Had John Murphy, the Columbine builder, make me a new fork, then had the frame & fork repainted by Franklin Frames. Kinda lucky that the guy who built it in '82 can still build a matching fork 35yrs later. Built it up mostly semi-modern with a SRAM/FSA 1x drivetrain, which is awesome for lazy shifters like me. I'll install a VO Constructeur rear rack once my workstand is clear.

Man, that's a great color scheme, PCB. Also one of the best looking Columbines I've seen; often the lugs are a little over the top for me. No Columbine hanger on that one?
|
Absolutely beautiful pcb, nice work. :thumb:

I wouldn't call you a lazy shifter. A 1x drivetrain makes a ton of sense now that it's technically possible. You know whether you're going up or down when you push the only shifter you have.

Thanks for the compliment and concern. The skewers are internal-cam Shimano Ultegra units, anodized a darkish grey so they kinda look like they could be less-effective modern external-cam skewers. I'm more than likely going to replace them with DT RWS skewers, which are supposed to provide more clamping force than an internal-cam skewer.
Clearance is a little tight at the chainstays with the 29mm Parigi-Roubaixs, so there's not much room for wheel slippage. First thing I thought when building it up was "Why didn't I ask Jack to bump the chainstays a bit for more room back there?" Live and learn, I guess?

Lovely classic paint job! Apologies if everything's working perfectly well, but are you using external-cam skewers with horizontal drop-outs on the rear wheel? I was advised against this when I modernised my old '80s steel road bike and swapped out the skewers on the new wheels for the old style internal-cam Campag Veloce ones (which also look more elegant IMO). Much better clamping force, hence less chance of wheel slippage.

We've just had our first day in London warm enough (for me!) for riding in shorts, so I decided to get the posh bike out. Looking forward to Summer now. https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2874/3...724086f2_b.jpg |

Agreed. Another tasteful build and concept. One after another, you never strike out. Just a little envious. :) |

Here is my new build. This started life as a 1993 Specialized Sirrus Triple. I picked it up last summer for 30 bucks. Total weight ended up at 21 pounds. I put on a full 5800 105 group with fulcrum racing 5 LGs and 28 4000 II's.

Inspired
Love seeing all this beautiful steel coming back to life. I was inspired to do the same to a beautiful Trek 560 frame that I had laying around. Fresh powder coat, brand new from the ground up. Rides like a dream. Too pretty for me to hold on to. Hope I can find a nice home for her. Well done though everyone, and thanks for the inspiration.

'87 Miyata 912 turned into an Ultegra/600 tricolor 9sp setup. Posted before, but now with some changes! - Added a Nitto Dynamic II quill stem to replace both the original and the threadless adapter stems ive used in the past. 0degree instead of -17degree and its well finished. - Also added some Soma Hwy1 compact drop bars to both offset the longer reach of the new stem and also to give me a wider bar than what was original. - Swapped the orginal 600 crankset with 52/39 rings for a period correct Sakae SX triple that is set up as a 50/34 compact double. Flippin love it! |

Question, How do u guys attach your GPS unit with 25.4 handlebar? Assuming none came with the GPS unit, some sort of rubber shim would do it, the sort of thing that would come with bracketing options with cheap lights. I'd imagine your local bike shop would have some knocking around. |
1 inch bar mount
I have a plastic Garmin branded mount that came with a 1 inch rubber grommet to fit the bar. On both my Legnano and '74 Super Course I still had to wrap a couple wraps of electricians tape to get it to tighten properly. Google 1 inch Garmin mount.
