Here she is.........

This is the new bike I was telling you guys about. It's a 1985 Centurion Lemans RS. Serial # N5N5418.

I was worried that the old 6 speed 126mm rear hub that it came with will be hard to replace since it's pretty beat up. Anyway, I was able to muscle a replacement hub with 130mm in there. Of course I had my younger sister to help me.

In my previous posts, I was contemplating about getting a 126mm rear hub [old Dura ace or Phil Wood] but that is mooted now because I [really my sister] was able to get the 130mm rear hub in there.

The rear shifting is pretty bad now but that can be cured with a new dérailleur and shifter I think. I mean if I really want the 9+ speed. I'm too old school and I rather like the 6 or 7 speed.

anyway, I got a chance to ride her a bit earlier and it was pretty awesome. Just like how I remember it back in 1985....yea

cheers

Love that paintjob and good choice on the silver wheels.

What's wrong with the shifting? Are the shifters indexed? (Do they click and stop when you shift?)

Which rims does Mavic use on that particular wheelset? I think you've made my mind up!

[What's wrong with the shifting? Are the shifters indexed? (Do they click and stop when you shift?)] Well, i had on a 10 speed cassette and the current shifter is an indexed 6 speed shifter. It just wouldn't work at all due to the spacing of the gear on the 10 speed cassette.

[You need to post pictures of the drive side.] I will once I get the new seat in.

[Which rims does Mavic use on that particular wheelset?] Ksyrium Equipe

thanks for all input

I just had a mini flashback about the flock of seagulls right now.

A lot of 6 speed index shifters have a little thing you can turn to make them friction shifters. Look carefully for markings indicating index and friction mode. I think they were worried about what would happen if the indexing lost it's adjustment so most shifters have this. Truth is, with 6 speed spacing it's pretty hard to lose the adjustment so it wasn't really needed.

Holy.....[add your own whatever here, my was SH***T]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please pardon my "French" no offense to any French riders. Just a saying here in the US.

you are right Hocam...........I just took a closer look and there is a marking where I can go friction or index. The things you learn while reading the oracle of Internet.........

Thanks for learning me.
