I've posted the progressive status thread elsewhere, but here's the before and after:

BEFORE: Cheap Craigsilst find. Note the crappy after-the fact FD braze and rattlecan patch:

AFTER: Sturmey 3 speed Porteur. All frame and paint work was done at the Marinoni workshop in Montreal.

I'm still contemplating the idea of putting a drop bar with constructeur racks. Maybe rebuilding the rear to be a SA 5 speed.

Yes, it was really rusty and although I cleaned it up with oxalic acid I thought it was to heavy and replaced it with one I had on hand. Thanks for the compliment.

700C with 32 paselas.
...... and thanks!

I'm going to do away with the porteur-specifics (bars, rack) and go with a drop bar with constructeur racks - summer project. I'm toying with the idea of an Alfine 8 or 11 rear wheel rebuild. The J-Tek boys tell me they are presently working on the 11 speed bar-end, and that either model can be made available in silver finish.

Trek 400 Craigslist Find

The ad had no pictures and only a brief description; but for $20, it was worth the risk. Although missing a seat and badly neglected, I was very happy with what I found. I overhauled the bike and spent an additional $40 on parts. I replaced the handlebar tape, cables, seat, seatpost, tires, and tubes. The bottom bracket, headset, and hubs were lubed and serviced. I didn't replace the chain and freewheel, but I did clean them. Although its missing cable ends and a crank bolt, I am very happy with the outcome.

How did this thread get buried so deeply and why isn't it a sticky ?

Bob... that Trek looks excellent.

Today's project was started a few years ago when I found this Peugeot UE19 Supersport... and knew a certain lady would love it.

Today...

One could not ask for a more beautiful front derailleur... Huret Jubillee.

Sachs Huret out back as well... nos Rival 7 speed with a NOS Sachs 7 speed freewheel.

Shifting is also very crisp and solid... the lady does not like friction shifters and if she is going to have a deraiilleur equipped bicycle it has to be indexed.

A neglected Puegeot Mixte with the wrong wheels, wrong brakes, bad tires and a mis-fit rack:

Proper 27" wheels, correct brakes with "Peugeot" pantograph, chrome fenders and the rack is long gone:
