I have finally gotten my circa 1957 Cinelli back together.
As found:

Along with new cables and tape I replaced the saddle, brakes and wheels.
The saddle is a butchered Brooks B-17 champion standard. There are no date codes or patent stamps, I think it is from approximately the right time period but I'm not 100% sure.
The brakes are Universal 51's with the wraparound springs and pointed levers.
For the wheels I tracked down some Campy three piece high flange hubs with the feather details in the logo, open "c" skewers and Fiamme red label rims with the ferruled valve holes. I didn't manage to find any period spokes and got impatient so I went with some Phil spokes. I might change them out in the future. I also decided to try out Veloflex tires.
The rest of the parts came on the bike and I think are original. You can see more photos here.

Well, no. I stripped off all the original decals and went with the oldschool Schwinn decals. Kind of like what I said in the post. The overall look was much different and I thought it might inspire someone else whose bike has a butt-ugly factory color scheme.
Tires and seatpost were also changed. More has been done since. I just have a bad sense of when I've truly reached "after," I guess.

I didn't change much, just the consumables, saddle, stem, and handlebars.
Before the overhaul, but after some cleaning
After. As you can see I've been trying to ride it despite it being about 8cm smaller than I usually ride. It was surprisingly comdortable.

Hey all. This has probably been addressed a few hundred times but I want to know where one can purchase a set of Centurion and Dave Scott Ironman expert decals. I have the '87 pink/yellow model and have been toying with the idea of changing the color. Teenagers, adults, even the rattlesnakes make adverse comments...

Sorry for the thread interuption.If it is just too 80s for your taste, I'd say sell it to someone who likes it (like myself) and get a version of the Ironman you prefer. They came in many cool finishes.
Not aware of anyone making those decals.

Hi WNG. Thanks for the wake up call. I decided right after the post to keep it original. I spotted this bike years ago by the color in a large heap of bike frames at a metal scrap yard while dumping an old clothes dryer. They sold me the frame for $5.00. It had the 105 RD and shifters still attached, but nothing else. I knew the pedigree and color scheme.
Being a dad and such, I didn't have the dough to collect all the right parts, so I cobbed 27" Araya rims, Shimano Altus FD, Pro Max brakes, etc. I transferred my B-17 from the Panasonic 500 that I had been riding for too many years and "viola" I have a really great riding road bike.
According to my daily log, I have a little more than 21,000 miles on the bike. Yep, changed the cranks, cassette, plastic derailleur cogs, chains, etc. as they wore out, but it keeps on gliding like the wind. I can honestly say I've had no further GAS for a different bike in years.
I hope to keep logging miles long after I am told to stop by my friends and family.
