Dreams of a Lenton Tourist
Arriving in today's mail was a nice 1950/51 flyer for Raleigh bicycles, export edition, and my eye was immediately drawn to what is a dream bike for me, the Lenton Tourist. Below is the bit from that flyer plus the image from the UK catalog from that period. I'm thinking I might convert my 1948 Claud Butler into such a bike with EA1 alloy wheels (which are what the Claud came with), a Sturmey Archer AW hub, and an alloy chainguard like the one Velo Orange is thinking about carrying. Of course, I'd rather have the real thing.

Neal,
I actually got a chance to ride one of those briefly at the ABCE Tour year before last. Definitely felt much nicer than standard sports. It was loaned to me to ride in the tour itself but due to a miscommunication it was a 21" model and had a very short seat post, so I was unable to ride it the full distance. I have one old lightweight frame I have considered building up as as pseudo Sports Tourist, but it is very far down the list.

I'm hoping to get a 23" Super Lenton in the new year. It will need totally rebuilding and painting, but that'll be all part of the fun. Has anyone on BF got a Super Lenton? Or a Lenton sports? I've seen the write up on Retro Raleighs, other than that, photos and info is pretty sparse.
