Older Campy Record Rear dr
Hi;
I'm in the process of rebuilding my De Rosa (after it gets back from paint) as an all campy record bike. So needless to say like most projects I have some parts and am looking for others. My question is regarding campy rear derailuers. I will be using downtube shifters with an 8 speed hub, how far back on campy models can I go..... or which models will have the correct travel length for an 8 speed hub. Can a Super Record work or do I need something newer?
Thanks

I think a Super Record rear derailleur should work but I would rather use a C-Record setup for 8 speed. how old is your De Rosa frame? What is the rear spacing - I would guess that it is set at 130mm to accomodate the 8 speed block. With C-Record you could still use down tube shifters and have the brake cables beneath the bar tape - or are you looking for the exposed cable look?

Super Record should be find with 8speed, though the closer the spacing gets the more careful you must be with your shifts to make them spot-on. I'm currently running a 7speed cluster on my Gazelle which is decked out with full Super Record. I need to give the cables and shifters a once over as I've been getting some ghost shifts when I get the power output cranked up.

The year of the frame and the rear spacing all suggest C-Record. Your preference for down tube gear levers and aero brake levers support the C-Record build option.
But, if you want to stretch the Campagnolo rear derailleur to it's limit with 8 Speed, Super Record, Nuovo Victory or Nuovo Triomphe are probably as old as you can go.

My 1980 NR derailleur handled a 13-26 SRAM 7-speed freewheel very easily, perhaps with enough low gear limit screw reserve to have covered an 8-speed cogset.

Sounds like the Super record might be work... but the C-record will be right on from what I hear . I have never been onto the indexing that much, I have probably sold more ultegra and 105 brifters whan most people will use in a life time. Downtube or barcons are all I use any more.

depending on the range of freewheel you use a chorus RD works much better than C-record. And they sell for much much much less:
IMH0 $45 is a great price: https://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Campagno...QQcmdZViewItem
