Sheldon Brown Tribute Thread
If any of you have a favorite page from his website, we could post up here as a tribute. I learned so much from his website, and this is one of the first pages I remember viewing:

When first reading bike related messages on his site, I thought there was a lot of information.
The first page that made me realize that I liked his attitude at an even deeper level was:
https://sheldonbrown.com/eagle.html
A free spirit with a sense of humor! But as seen on other pages, a deep respect for the history, mechanics and innovations of cycling. A wonderful combination of traits.

The first time I sat down to clean my bike (after over 20 years of non-riding) I went to Sheldon't site to see how he recommended doing it. I got this page from doing a search: https://sheldonbrown.com/chainclean.html
I actually believed it, and thought "No way am I going to do this. Sheldon Brown is a lunatic"
If we all try to be a tad more patient, a bit more knowledgeable, a little more generous, Maybe we might fill a thousandth of the void Sheldon Brown left behind.

Although I do tend towards that kind of lunacy when cleaning....

This would be my first glimmering of how much time I was to spend on his epic website:

That Mr. Brown was instrumental in making my life as enjoyable as it's been is simple truth. Thanks for everything, Sheldon.

Just got the news.
Sheldon always answered my questions as if we both knew what we were talking about; not always the case with me.
I'll bet wherever he is there are Biopace 52/110BCD and 39/130 chainrings!

As much as I admired and appreciated the assistance Sheldon gave me and the cycling community at large, it was the spirit with which he accepted his affliction with Multiple Sclerosis that I found truly inspirational:

I was just on the Harris site last night, trying to understand and find the correct bolts to put a TA crank and rings back together.

When I started looking on the internet for info about bikes (got back into biking about 18 months ago) I kept coming up with links to his site. Reading his info on bike-tire sizing cleared up a lot of confusion for me (I have 4 humble bikes, all with different size tires). Just a week or so ago I had to return a tire by UPS and I watched one of his videos showing how to fold a beaded tire.

I was creating a middle school math lesson on ratios using the gear ratios of bicycles when I found Sheldon's site. Browsing that site led to my prsent state of being fully engrossed in cycling and wrenching, and I don't think I would be if not for him.

In July 2003 business travel took me to Boston. I am glad I made the commuter rail trek out to West Newton to visit Sheldon at Harris Cyclery on the eve of one of his many trips to France. He and I had exchanged numerous cordial and constructive emails over the years, and he was a first-class gentleman as well as an undisputed expert in his field.

There was so many times I referred to his pages, in particular in my early days of cycling. I cannot recall one specific location that was important. I was just glad to find such a wonderful resource on the Sheldon Brown site. I will admit, initially I found ken kifer to be a constant point of reference and it was either of those two I often found myself perusing in days past. May Sheldon Brown Rest In Peace.

I know in the few e-mails I exchanged with him he always had something funny to say. I'm going to miss the humor and the honesty too. You never had to wonder what Sheldon's opinion was.
