Raleigh Prestige

My summer commuter, 1983 Raleigh Prestige...shot before I had the saddle angle set correctly. Bars aren't as high now as they were that day. I need to take a new picture.

My current commuter is a 1992 Bianchi Axis (not very classic, but older and a bit classy)...

Like epicurean's Bridgestone, even if it isn't a classic now, it will be by the time I get a different commuter.

Last summer I commuted on a '67 Schwinn Collegiate, but I also only had a 3 mile RT commute then.

89 Trek 660 fixed gear conversion. Recently had the frame powdercoated. I've come to like the stealth look; I don't think I'll bother with decals.

Is that a mixer or a computer?

Also posted in the commuter forum - this will see some long commutes this spring.

This is what I commute on:

http://gallery.mac.com/bbattle/100072/100_0437/web.jpg

I've put new alloy wheels on with a new SA AW hub. Has improved the ride a bit. Also have a seatpost mounted rack in case I need to carry some stuff. I may bang out the dent in the front fender, repaint the fenders and install them back on the bike. Also looking at getting rid of the cottered cranks, rethreading the bb and install a new crankset.

Or I may just sell the bike and move on.

ps. (an '87 Fuso showed up last night. pics later)

OMG, I have nightmares about that bike, and I didn't even know it existed.

nlerner 02-19-08 09:26 AM

Rudi, does your nightmare involve riding it or running alongside it?!

here's a really crappy pic of my 73'ish raleigh grand prix commuter sitting in the gym at my work yesterday morning after riding in:

Here is a crummy compressed shot of my trusty old UO-8. Note the period-correct SunTour barcons, Bellwether handlebar bag, and Pletscher mousetrap rack. Gearing is a very nice half-step 12-speed, 45-42 / 13-26. Rear derailleur is a SunTour Cyclone II, front is a period-correct Shimano Titlist. Saddle is a tired old Brooks (of course!) Competition.

Here's my vintage commuter:

1976 or 77 Claud Butler Colstar. I commute from San Rafael to Sausalito with it. I have'nt been riding as much since it's been raining but I think I'm gonna break down and buy some fenders and commute anyway.

There are some lovely bikes in here and it's hard to keep up with them all.

Not that I'm complaining.

You'll be happy to know that after a year of mashing around at about 73 gear-inches, I dropped it to about 67.

No, the outs on a Schmidt are suppose to be on the drive side, the wiring goes up the drive side fork, behind the crown, and over. I had the light on the left to be more visible to on coming traffic

See, I knew you knew what you were looking at! I'd assumed it was a Shimano with the skinny bit on the starboard side (going for alliteration bonus points, sorry).

My 1984 Univega Gran Turismo:

It's getting really light duty as a commuter right now, since I don't like commuting in the rain or the dark, but soon to get more exercise...
