You sure he's not talking about Favorit, without the e? Favorit is/was a Czech brand, I think.

Thanks guys, It sounds good and I think I'm getting a pretty good deal on it. The guy says it has an english BB, and a 1 inch threaded headset, hopefully that's true. I'll probably pick it up and figure out what to do with it later.

You must post photos and specifications! The more info we have, the better answers we can give to others in the future .

So I bought the frame for $40 Canadian. Top tube is 56 cm seat tube is 58. BB is English and the headset is standard ISO best I can tell. Weird thing is its got that pretty lugging on the head tube and toptube/ seat tube junction but it has strange dropouts. They seem to be forged but have no hanger and aren't track ends. Either way here's the link to my blog with the pictures.

Seems like a decent frame for $40 be cool if you took a photo of the drop-outs so we could see what you're talking about. Should make a good SS or fixed gear.

and that's a relatively common plate? I want to put a shimano 600 on the bike but that doesn't look like it'd have anywhere to attach to. The only hole tapped into the dropouts on my frame is above the dropout its self, like where you'd attach fenders.

You need something like this
Or you can get one from loose screws:

you need one that looks like this to mount your 600:

That frame is sweet - contrary to USAZorro's claim, I don't have one at the moment, but am always looking for one. Have been putting Favorit parts together in the hopes of finding a 56-59cm frame one of these days.
I rode a couple of them back in the Bike Boom days (one-day loaners), they were a real low cost bargain at that time. In the $200.00 range you got 531 double butted tubing and all Favorit components. Paint was about the equivalent of a low end Gitane, and it's wasn't the prettiest thing on the block - typical Eastern Bloc product, built-strong-like-tractor (and our women) - but nice riders and nicely stiff for the climbs.
My folks were over to Slovakia to visit the relatives in '72, dad tried to get one shipped back to the states for me, but the bureaucratic jumps were a nightmare, even with an uncle who was a mid-level Party functionary.
Would still LOVE to find one in nice shape.

I'm so glad to have gotten so much feedback on this, sorry I couldn't figure out how to post the pics on here and had to link. Robtown is sending me the plate I need for free so that's pretty cool. I just got a set of 27" alloy arayas and am trying to get my hands on a 600 group for a reasonable price. It'll probably end up replacing my 3 speed univega as my go-to bike for work. The guy at my LBS thought it might be a slightly up-market frame as the one he happened to have in the shop had much simpler lugging and even cruder brake mounts.
