turman, you must bring that one to the vintage ride when we get it organized. Else I'm threatening to drive down there and see it for myself. Absolutely beautiful!

pet, pet, pet, pet

With classic car shows, you post the "look but do not touch" sign on the dash, but where do you stick it on the bike?

Thanks for telling me about these photos, I clearly do see what you were referring to when you mentioned the lugs in the email.

Well, what did you end up finding out about the lugs? What did you do with them?

They're steel, sanded, and painted. I got someone with a better hand than mine to do the outlining.

If anyone's got a line on a chrome Silca Impero, The Queen of Sweden here could use it.

I bought my Raleigh International at a LBS in Corpus in '73 or '74, I wonder if it was your Uncle's shop?

Nice bike.

Thanks,

The shop was Bike South, on Alameda, at or near Staples. I remember he sold Raleigh, because he had a white one I wanted really bad. Dunno if he was still in business then, though.

Super Mondia

I had a Super Mondia Special a couple of years ago and though that the lugs might be brass or copper plated. They are not. What you see is most likely paint on the lugs so be careful when trying to polish it just in case.

Have a peek at what the lugs looked like as found. You can still see some of the gold covering the lug work and it is only paint.

Yours might be different but thought this might be worth mentioning.

Wow! Nice! I'm a bit late to this party but what about the dropouts? They appear to be Campagnolo but I doubt they made stainless lugs. How did they do that part?

They're Campy and chromed steel, as is the fork.

WOW. It just doesn't do it justice to say 'they don't make them like that anymore'...

...but they don't.

Heh.... based on those pictures and what you've said previously, I think I know where you live. My commute is longer but I still routinely ride by your place.
