Schwinn World?
A coupla questions about a World I just picked up.
What is the biggest dif 'tween the World's and a World sport? I see a ton on sports but very few World's on the 'Bay. Also why did Schwinn not drill and tap a hole for the derail on the dropout. I mean the hole is in the derail so why not the drop? Is this the norm for World's or did they just forget? I heard that some of the Schwinn frames were made by Giant.
I bought this sight unseen and it actually is a clean vintage though too tall for me. The elderly gentleman I bought it from said he bought it for his daughter in the late seventies but she never rode it. Said it has been hanging in their garage ever since. Two inches of dust on the belly and no rust, scratches or wear makes me believe. Even the brake pads look new! Like I said to tall for me but I couldn't pass. Don't know if I'll sell it whole or part it. I might upgrade it first and the see...whatya think?

Oh, it's worth $3.50, to save you asking.
I never ask what a bike is worth as I do my own research for that thank you.
And I usually go what I feel and not what other say on that anyway though I am sure I have overpaid and got a steal at times! The post was really a que to get some experienced Schwinn lovers to tell me the bikes atributes are and whether it is worth putting effort into tech wise....not it's worth money wise!
East Hill....
you are a glutton for the photographic image aren't you?
Well as soon as I can I will honor your request!

soonerbills, when evaluating the difference, quite a bit depends on the year of the bike. Assuming its a mid or late 80s bike, the big difference is the World has a high tensile steel frame and the World Sport is chromoly. Depending on the year there may be other differences like alloy rims vs steel rims, front QR vs no QR. The components might be nicer on the World Sport, but IMHO, that usually is no big deal.

Also, look closely at the head badge for four very small, lightly stamped digits. This number represents the build date. The first three digits are the day of the year (001 - 365), and the fourth digit is the last digit of the year. The decade is established by the decals and components.
Once you figure out the year, look for your bike in the on-line Schwinn catalogs.
