Gios help.
Hi all, I've been trying(not toooo hard) to figure out what model my Gios is. Here are some photos, when I purchased it it had already been powder coated black, including over the badge
Anyhoo, here are some pics:

I was going to say it's a compact. I don't know anything more about variations within that (i.e. compact pro vs. just compact, if there is such a thing). In anycase they came out in the late 1980s and were made into the 1990s I think. That is very rough dating but it gives you an idea. The good news is that compacts are not nearly as collectable as earlier GIOS' so the powder coating isn't horrible. That bad news sounds like it was coated over the headbadge?

Thanks! I had seen pics of Compacts, but had yet to see a Compact Pro. And yes, the headbadge has been coated over. For some reason i just wrote badge in the earlier post.

Well Erle, I know you, kind of, just not very well.
This is Leigh.
I believe you went to school with my brother Neil. I think we've talked about this before, no?
I've been living in Canada for two years now, but I'll be back in Melbourne come December.
Anyway, nice Gios. Did it come with the Campy monoplanars?
I almost won an auction for a NOS Compact Pro a few years back. My size (63-65cm preferred), and a beautiful metallic green. I missed out though at the last minute; oh well. I've since collected a few nice other rides anyway. We should go riding someday in the future.

Neil is living in the USA now yeah?
Those monoplanars came off ebay some months after I got the frame. I feel they are quite nice to look at. I've never run them before though. We should definitely go for a ride come(aus) summer.

Yeah, Neil is living in a little Californian mountain town with his wife and doesn't seem to have much intention of coming "home", unlike myself.
A summer ride would be nice, though it is going to take some adjustment, being away from the heat for a few years.

What you have is a Gios Compact Pro HT. It is recognizable by the fact that it lacks any external lugs except for what appears to be a lug at seat tube / top tube / seat stay junction. I have this frame in my Gios '95 catalogue. It is pictured with Gios lugless (unicrown) steel fork. Here's full info for you from the catalogue:
Gios Compact Pro HT
Tubing: Dedacciai superlight (nickel-chromium-vanadium) "heat treatment" special for Gios
Investment cast lugs: Microfusione Italiana special for Gios
Geometry is identical to current Compact Pro.
In terms of quality, the frame is listed behind "Compact Pro" model and in front of "Lite" model (in the middle that is).
Hope this clears it up for you.
