That saddle is the World Traveler B17 Special, a 2012 limited edition. They were given to Brooks Dealers of Excellence; that's probably how Bob came into his. My LBS has one; it's a sharp saddle, but I'd get some Proofide on it as I'm sure it would look a lot better.

The sunshine returned after a dismal weekend. And I went out and did 22 miles, exploring some routes Google Maps claims I have access to. Well, the No Trespassing Signs proved otherwise. I was searching for a way to cross the Salt River at the Granite Reef Dam. This would be a shortcut and way to get to canal paths through an Indian Reservation. This canal reaches Scottsdale and would be a cool day ride. Very isolated according to member RFC.

It wasn't a total loss of a ride, I got close enough to Red Mountain for a photo opportunity. And met a rider from CA on vacation and had a pleasant conversation with him. He had a late model Specialized cross/hybrid outfitted for fast pavement riding.
Some pics of the afternoon...

northbound downhill with Red Mountain straight ahead. Granite Reef Dam is near the bottom to the left...

After the descent, the road ahead is rather unspectacular, and I make a U-turn and head back up. A handful of bikers were about. The road is mostly empty, with a view of the desert...

Took a rest stop by the Salt River...

The climb wasn't long but a bit steep at times. And I was struggling again. I guess I need to get the wind back in my lungs. Seems like I'm always going into anaerobic oxygen deficit. Later, I decided to check my freewheel, and discovered my 28t cog was actually a 26! DOH! (Drillium Dude, you were right!) No wonder I'm having a hard time. :-P But more miles should help me TTFU.

Very short and slow ride today thanks to a cruddy upper respiratory infection. However, the mid-40's F temps actually felt good to breathe. Still found a few photo opportunities, though.

Today I rode 80 miles around Phoenix on roads, bike paths and along canals. Beautiful, blue bird day, temps in the high 60's and low 70's. This was a personal distance record for me. Sorry, no pic's. I'm cooked!

Nice accomplishment Saguaro! Too bad the weather isn't staying this way next week.
I still must do my belated 49 on 49.

Checked out the newly opened conversion of an old railroad bridge to pedestrian/bicycle use. Pretty cool.

It was 65F here yesterday; crazy.

Thanks Will! Let me know when you plan to ride the 49 miler, maybe we could ride it together. If you start the Grand Canal path at the Biltmore and ride west to 99th Ave. and Olive Ave. and back its about 49 miles RT. Very fast, flat, and completely car-free and there are drinking fountains for water along the way. Probably the most pain free way to do lots of miles. I plan to do it twice eventually for my first century.

BTW, the photos you posted above are awesome!

Wow! Amazing picture!

What's that bag you have up front? I'm looking for something like that.

Great photos from Yokev, WNG. Wish I could jump into one of those photos and be there.

And ColonelJLloyd, great photo of your fine looking bike. Really nice. (I am a fan of Acorn Bags too)

I'll second, or third that. That is a fantastic picture Colonel. The colors reflecting, the highlights, the bridge light on the bike...amazing!

+1 Colonel , that photo is fantastic! The cityscape lights in the background...so nice.

Saguaro: Sounds like a plan, I will PM you when I find out when my next free weekend will be. I've wanted to try the Grand Canal. Do I need wider tires? I have 23mm currently on my bianchi.

Here's a few shots from my phone of today's short afternoon ride (17 miles), for the folks about to be hit hard back East.
(I don't miss N'oreasters)

I'm talking about the Arizona Canal, not the Grand Canal (my mistake!). The Arizona Canal path is paved the whole way between Granada Park (Maryland Ave. & 20th St.) and where it ends at 99th Ave. & Olive Ave. Its paved with asphalt and stretches of concrete. It also has the huge advantage of underpasses at all but one (minor) road crossing so you really don't have to stop at all! Your road tires will work great on the Arizona Canal bike path.

Got out for a short ride before/during/after dusk. About 40 degrees and dry. Spring is near, and the days are getting longer.

Never been any good at rolling photos

Sorry, Rog - but this made me laugh out loud

You guys are killing me with the pics/reports from WA and AZ. I'm stuck without a bike here in CA, and it's raining anyhow. At least I can console myself with the fact I'll be putting my Mondia to use in a tropic paradise in a little over a week!

Great reports, guys!

Here's a pic of my front porch this morning. I think I'll go for a bike ride.

At least we didn't lose power.

Yikes - it was supposed to be a whopper of a storm. You'll burn enough calories just digging out.

13 mile loop out to Weedon Island Preserve and back, on the old Bridgestone 550, cool and breezy, but a warm sun.
