That's a real nice looking bike Von. Like front rack and the blue cables. Looks like good weather in your neck of the woods.

My Son and I got out for 20 miles on the tandem this afternoon. We did a few 'hot' laps on the velodrome, and watched some awesome RC planes fly. The highlight was probably a thermos full of hot apple cider.

I did get out for the last day of 2015. a cold short ride before sunset.

Sometimes the bike is just a conveyance to a nice place, but it sure is nice to be able to totally forget the conveyance was hardly involved in landing you there.

Ti classic, not vintage.

Another clear and cold day on Sunday. This time, I took the Hobbs out for a short ride in the lower valley with Bob Freeman and some of his friends.

It was a strong showing of vintage bikes thanks in large part to @Faustocopious

Bobs’ friends Bill and Ann were in town to pick up a pair of stunning bikes he’d restored and sold to them for the upcoming Eroica California.

Bill receiving a newly restored Rabenick

Ann receiving an older restoration - Pat Hanlon

Bob was riding a beautiful Gios

We also had a early Davidson

And a 10th anniversary Fuso

If you hang out with Bob for any amount of time, you get used to it.
He really does great restorations.

The fact that this thread has dropped to the third page on my computer reminds me of how fortunate I am to be able to ride year around. Hold tight all you cold-weather folks: Spring will come again.

Yesterday was a cool (mid forties to low fifties) cloudy day between rain storms. I took advantage of the temporarily clear skies to ride out to the small town of Point Reyes Station for coffee and a pastry.

OBH, coffee and pastries sure sounds good. I just rode my commute again, first time since the snow/ice storm last week. It was good to get back on the bike.

Thursday was my 'short day' (semi-retired) so I locked up at 10:30am and dragged the Ersatz Grand Prix to the east end of the Chester Valley Trail - 15 beautifully paved miles along the Philly Main Line of Public Works then U about and back. 36 deg n overcast when I pushed off and 44 deg n sunny when I returned. I'm still amazed that this far into January they have not salted/brined the roads yet. Ole, what luck. Supposed to be 47 deg today and high 50's tomorrow. Ok, I'll have the Pro out to sparkle the neighbors.

Excellent riding winter so far. But I also did the once-over on the 1979 Moto Mirage, clamped into the mag trainer, as terrible weather is surely around the corner. Must log the time there to keep my legs and butt and back ready for spring. Cost of doing business

Still riding, but increasingly on an OT basis. Today was 7 degrees at ride time with a constant 12-15mph wind. Managed 12 miles out in it, including about 8 on the trail. With three layers on my legs, still managed to get three nice frostnip welts. My fall and winter ride goal is usually to have as many miles as degrees. Tomorrow, with highs being expected around zero, might be done on the trainer.

The bar mitts help!

Is that at Battle Creek?

Murphy-Hanrahan?

Also off topic, we just returned from the Mississippi river bottoms.

Rode my ECR this morning, while everyone else rode their fatbikes.

I might just pick up one of those el cheapo Surlys that were on sale if I can find something in my size.

The ECR is sweet, but I could use just a bit more float in the snow.

Like @Chrome Molly I'm still riding (not as much "frozen northness", but still chilly), but as I don't venture off-road, one of my two rides happens to still be on-topic. Most of my rides don't yield terrific views though, as it's mostly commuting. I've seen a few nice sunrises, but my cell phone is generally buried in my bag, and not worth the effort to take out.

Carver Lake park. I ordered a fat bike and just days after my wife traded in her SUV for a small hybrid. So, my rides on the fattie have been starting from home. Thinking I could toss it on a rack, but between Carver and Battle Creek there is enough variety for most rides on those days I can't take the Croll off onto the country gravel.

The trails were doable on the 2.3 inch tires on the Croll, but then if you were out of the "slot" you were pretty much out of control. With this, you get a much bigger margin before you're even off the line, and then you can often keep it together to get back in line. Or, just accept the slowness and plow your own trail in up to a half foot of fresh snow.

I sort of went whole hog on the Moto Ti, but that was just as much due to the component spec as the frame. Other than the tires/tubes and saddle, it's pretty much stock. Ti is a great fat bike material (ride hard then put away salty and wet). Aluminum may be just as nice riding though, as the tires at low trail pressures have a tendency to bounce when pedaling (so whatever the frame is doing isn't really noticable). Going to covert this thing to a 1x11 for next year, to get the next step toward BMX style flickable in the rough stuff. It can conquer anything, except below zero temps (well, the owner won't).

Beautiful winter day in East Vancouver, BC; shot from the top of a little hill on Slocan bike route:

First ride of the year (and first in a while, with short days and rainy weekends of late).

Just a quick tear around the neighbourhood, as I've got a batch of beer to brew this afternoon...
