We took the tandem out for 31.8 miles today, first ride in a month. The temperature hit the upper 50's to create a glorious late November day.

First time out on a mountain bike
 

Coworker emptied his shed asked if I wanted the bikes including this Trek 950. Said sure. Went through it everything works except the front derailer trigger shifter. (Took it apart, mangled spring.) Sharp eyed will notice an old Suntour stem shifter on the bar.

Anyway, got power lines maybe a mile so up the road, cuts through the public golf course and as I discovered lots of trails in there. Spent well over 2 hours cruising through the woods, had a blast! My wrists are sore, not use to flat bars.

Definitely doing this again.

I spent all of 10 minutes on eby checking out trigger shifters w/o luck. Deore LX.
Anyone suggest a more accurate name for this shifter?

Fifty miles through cow country. The dairy ranchers in my area have had a rough year. The last two winters have been very dry and the grass has not grown as vigorously as it usually does. Many had to purchase extra feed that is trucked in. Some have reduced their herds, selling off some of their cows. Rainfall this winter is better so far and green grass is sprouting on every pasture.

Just one taste and you're hooked for life... or at least that's what happened to me!

I can't see the shifters well enough in your pictures to hazard a guess but look carefully at the shifter for a number: It is usually on the clamp or on the shifter body. It is usually 3 numbers preceded by 3 letters.(example SL-M570)
Use that as your search term.

Thanks, Brent. Found the number, searched again, NOS right shifter and a left everything but the shifter. Looks like a $20 part, inc shipping.

Shake down ride on the recently assembled Kirk. The carbon saddle needs to go, other then that dialed in.

Was the saddle too stiff or just the wrong dimensions?

Just too stiff for my boney 215 pound arse. After about 15 miles, the boys started complaining.

Might be tough to dig one up at this point.

Does anybody like those carbon saddles? That's 115 grams of pure sexy, but I haven't seen a lot of rave reviews on comfort... I want to be able to ride a century in any saddle I own.

Did my commute again. Warm weather but dry. Except that the roads were wet from yesterday's storm so I had a nice skunk stripe by the time I got to the office.

With about a mile left to go my front brake cable began to feel odd. A quick glance at the lever showed that the cable was fraying just above the anchor. :eek: I finished the ride and later this evening rode home very carefully, using only the rear brake.

Took the Tempo out today; only thirteen miles, but a fast thirteen in 75 degree sunshine with just the slightest breeze. Thought I'd share.

We're used to visitors here in coastal Marin County. After all Muir Woods gets 900,000 visitors a year and Pt. Reyes National Seashore gets about 2.5 million. But most of them come in the Summer. This time of year is pretty quiet. Sometime shortly after Thanksgiving we'll start seeing the RV Snowbirds making their way south from Washington, British Columbia, and Alberta: Most of them rush south to Arizona on Interstate 5 in the center of the state but an adventuresome few pilot their behemoth vehicles down the Oregon and California Coast on the curvy Highway 1.

So I was a little surprised when climbing the steepest hill on today's ride to find myself being cheered on by this passel of Texans.

Another post from West Marin. Rode a loop from Tomales to Petaluma to Tomales. 38 miles of rolling hills. Mostly very well paved and few cars.

You and I must have come close to crossing paths today. I got as close to Petaluma as Chileno Valley Road and went right through Tomales on my way back down the coast!

Very cool. I did a Spring Hill Rd. Chileno Valley Rd. loop yesterday and an up an back on Chileno this morning. The Follis performed great. First time I have had her past 35 mph. Nice and steady.
The Compass Chinook Pass 28's rode very well too. Best 28's I have used.

The temperature hit in the 40s yesterday which meant that the snow melted on the paths forming a wet but very rideable surface. Did around a 15 mile trip yesterday punctuated by 2 pints of Youngs double chocolate stout with fellow BF member gerv at a local pub. He pretty much refused to ride without being fueled with at least 2 pints of beer and he twisted my arm to make it happen. This is my winter commuter which I built up last year from a CL $30 frame find and parts mainly from a donor stumpjumper as well as some other bits and pieces I had lying around:
