These are some scenes from the after-work commute from downtown Oakland to Berkeley.
The New Parkway Theater near downtown Oakland, part beer pub, part theater, with couches, restaurant food, and beer/wine. :thumb: http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...psae5pnjro.jpg This thread is filled with many picturesque shots. This is not that kind of commute. Behold trash and potholes. http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps64zovqzt.jpg And more potholes... http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...psl1ptkdqb.jpg Past a park... http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...pstejhqg3o.jpg Now back in Berkeley to pick up the trailer (which I drop off on the way). http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...pstbcbnyiu.jpg And on to pick up the daughter... http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps1pqwaxdj.jpg The guy up ahead was riding a powder blue, tig-welded Gunnar, in case you were wondering. ;) |
Looks like the locals were shopping an eviction pile.

My destination in Williamsburg after a nice first ride on my just finished Fuji Ace. 25 miles through NYC in comfortable spring weather (mid 60's).

Repost from another thread...
http://i.imgur.com/Af3447Ih.jpg 15 minutes turned into 2 hours pretty quickly. |
SWMBO had an appointment out near Adamstown, PA this morning so I put the 1980 Nishiki International 12 spd in the car and went along. I enjoyed an hour exploring the farm roads between 272 and 625. Very light traffic, real pretty countryside, classic old Pennsylvania farm houses and variable pavement conditions. The Int'l wears 1 1/8" (28mm) tires so the ride was just fine the whole way. But the hills - I thought I'd blow an artery on a couple of them, granny gear and all, but I DID NOT WALK the bike. Tough enough I suppose. Guess I'll do it again.
Oh, the Nishiki was the finest looking C&V out there today (OK, it was the only bike out there but gimme some slack). Just as I got back to the car and loaded the bike in it started raining. Splendid timing. |
26+ miles at a nice pace today in Afton Mn. Really liking the Condor.

a nice commute today. I had to slow down and softly talk my way around a herd of Elk grazing along the trail outside of Snoqualmie this morning. that seemed to keep their jitters down. On the way home, this afternoon, I had the trail to myself |

I have a really nice dyno light set up on my Bilenky and I use el-cheapo Crees/Blinkys on everything else. Thinking about an upgrade that I can shift from bike to bike. |
Went out early to beat the rains.

Too much pink! My eyes hurt! :D
We rode the tandem 52.8 miles today. Just started from home pretty early, stopped along the way to buy some veggies at my sweetie's favorite organic farm, rode home. It was a good day, lots of bikes out. One guy going the other way called out "I like your bike!" Saw another tandem at our lunch stop. We figured we ought to start some new threads here but decided to post in the Where'd You Ride? thread after all. New threads: http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/NewThreads.jpg |
Very stylish!

Nice pics Jim & Vonruden!
I went out for 35 miles in Smithfield, North Smithfield, Burrillville RI and Uxbridge MA. 70 degrees and a little windy. Down from the rafters came the '57 Steyr tank. The Austrian made Sears Roebuck JC Higgins Clubman is too long and rather like the sound(s) of Stoy'r. That meaning the 3 speed IGH tickbombin' away. It is a tank but rolls and rolls. Perhaps my imagination but the Styria (not Steyr) hubs seem as fine as some DA or Campy NR. Baffling but it goes it about its business swiftly.
This little one got a new front basket and lights for her Schwinn. (pic taken before install). Had a fun around the 'hood' cruise. Figured out all the levers and gear selection on her own. She called me a bike nerd and the black bike 'Dracula'. I consider that a compliment ~ lol http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...3&d=1433648435 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...4&d=1433648439 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...5&d=1433648443 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...6&d=1433648446 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=456353http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=456354http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=456355http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=456356 |
I love the shot of that T-Bird, JJS. It makes you wonder what it's story is.
C.A: your daughter appears to have a pretty nice dad. I rode up to Windy Ridge at Mt. St. Helens on Saturday with some friends. We started from the Iron Creek Campground riding up through the forest on FS 25. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psubfmb8fy.jpg We emerge into open country as we climb. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psjtvhpcvo.jpg And enter into the blast zone http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psuqeq953n.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psjbfxihdp.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psrp6ee0uh.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...pssq71qcjz.jpg We get to Windy Ridge and stop for lunch soaking in views of the Mountain and Spirit Lake. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psztzrpeui.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...pslxp4cwrf.jpg |
It’s time to descend. We return via FS 26.
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psfeo2iinj.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...pskbs3n4sn.jpg Well, it’s not all descending. We had another ridge line to get over http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psuiqfwzqp.jpg But that last ridgeline gave us one of the funnest descents for the day. Smooth Pavement through old growth trees. We ended the day back at the camp ground with a round of beers for all. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psycl8udgp.jpg |
Stunning as usual NB
My sons soccer game is late today so got in a nice 70 miler up and down the Jersey Shore http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...pshihf1wfa.jpg The Paramount http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psq1spzf8n.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psfekndcsg.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...pscppimdyh.jpg NYC if you look hard. http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psakluf72m.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...pssstzr9ak.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psxlsun7zt.jpg One of my favorite murals http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psk0vkanny.jpg |
Sure is a lot of sky in New Jersey, izzn't it? :thumb:
After yesterday's mileage my sweetie asked if we could do a short early ride today? Ah, we'll ride out to Verrill Farm, seein' as how this is the start of strawberry season in this part of the world. 27.0 miles. Veggies. Strawberries. http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/...5/Radishes.jpg http://users.rcn.com/jimmuller/pics/...rawberries.jpg I think we came back with about 35lbs of stuff to eat. |
|
Great pics and what a fun place to ride. Thanks for that.
