I picked up a lady's Triumph three speed today for $5. It has a broken pedal, broken rear reflector, bent chainguard, and misaligned rear fender, but tires seem good and the SA hub (64 9) shifts ok. It's a lovely blue color. 19" frame and old style mattress (uncomfortable) saddle. I'd take pictures but it's cold here and I don't feel like going out to the garage.

I got this Raleigh Clubmans Ladies mixte bike a year ago from the second hand bike shop in Dundee in Scotland. They get bikes from Police lost property and from council refuse department and donations.
It was Ł10. Its got Campag 980 gears, Sr Super custom cranks with SR pedals and stem. Weinnmann centrepull brakes. It had guards and rack on it. But I stripped them off so I could fit it in my folding bike bag.
I got that bike when I was working at a bike shop thats across the road from the second hand bike shop. I had got a 1970s Dawes Galaxy at the same time for Ł10 also. So the Raleigh was spares for the Dawes. I got new cones in the Dawes wheels and didnt do anything else with it. Was gonna paint it black and use it.
Now my situation isnt so good, as Ive mentioned on my Fire thread on folding bikes. Ive given a lot of bikes to the second hand bike shop. And my sisters taken a few truck loads of my bike stuff to the scrap yard.
The Dawes is on that load.
I was gonna strip the Raleigh for parts I could sell. But the postal charges are high here. And so Id have to get bus to town to give them to a carrier. But would end up the same or dearer doing it that way.
Im thinking of biking to the bike club I used to be in and give them the Raliegh. Its too nice to send to scrap.

Seeing a whole truck of bikes and parts heading for the scrap heap makes me a little sad.

There is a charity in Scotland that collects donated bikes and uses volunteer help to fix up and send them to Africa to people who could really use them in their everyday lives. You would be helping alot of people improve their situation, and might possibly change yours as well.

Saw a few interesting bikes at the flea market yesterday including the usual comically overpriced frankenbikes, and a Dutch city bike with aluminum tubing and plastic lugs - reefer madness indeed! Only managed to grab a horrible cellphone snapshot of it but it's enough to see the faux-filed and outlined head lugs and internal cable routing. Well, why not? When you build a frame that is the very essence of noodly, what harm will a few extra holes cause? There's almost certainly a bag of weed stashed in the seat tube.
We found a vendor with a pile of bike parts and spent nearly an hour digging around, but most of the parts were badly mangled. My friend managed to find a few gems among the debris:
I scored a different sort of Italian machine and spent the afternoon overhauling it:
Had two double espressos after my usual cup this morning and buzzed well through lunchtime...

We have a local charity here in Lehigh Valley, PA (Community Bike Works - https://www.communitybikeworks.org/index.htm), which does not only gives kids bikes, but teaches them how to fix and maintain their bikes. And it is more than that: every kid in the program gets a bike of any sort of shape and form and he or she makes it rideable working with the staff and volunteers for 4 months and once they "graduate" they keep their bike. Plus they are off the streets for 3-4 hours a week for 4 months, plus they get to realize their self-worth, plus they get positive reinforcement from adults, plus they learn a trade they can use later, and they get wheels... It saddens me to see bikes go to the crusher.

Picked up a really beat Centurion today. Paid donor price so I should be OK. I believe it is a 1977, I added it to the serial number thread. I'll give the frame an oxalic bath and see if it comes around well enough. Based on the construction, it appears to have been a pretty decent bike back then.

It sure looks like it will be well worth the extra effort,( and the black color helps if you need to do any touch-up afterward).
Good luck with your project!

Speaking of BLACK, I bought that A-D Vent Noir Mixte as a flip - though I’ve since decided that I will keep it and ride it instead.
The prior owner got it free, and had no interest in it at all, so it was just hanging there in her parents garage gathering dust. (Suffice it to say it was a very, very good deal.)
It is all original except that the frame pump and rat traps are missing (as are the horrid eight inch diameter reflectors I removed) and the bar tape was once replaced with black cork but the gum hoods have since disintegrated. Other than that, it is in A++ condition. I believe it is the first version of this model, from about 1977.
SPECS:
Matte black (ceramic?) finish over a (hard chromed) 21” Mixte frame
Reynolds 531 tubes, forks, stays.
Shimano Dura-Ace crank with black “drillium” chain wheel, DT Shifters, and front DR.
Shimano Crane rear Derailleur
MKS UKR2 Pedals
27” Fiamme gold anodized rims, stainless spokes
Gilux suede saddle
Clamp-on Blackburn bottle cage (Black of course!)
GB “Map of England” bars
DA Brakes and drilled levers
DA Headset
Tubular tires (apparently newer and in good condition).
Gipiemme micro adjust alloy seat post
Campagnolo seat binder
(How did that last one get in there?)

Not a great catch, but a funny story. I was at the thrift store and saw this Schwiin Letour. It was marked $6.95. The frame is decent, but the chrome wheels are pretty rusty. I was going back and forth with myself on whether or not to buy it. All of the sudden, a voice comes over the store PA and announces a 50% off sale on bikes and exercise equipment. That's all it took. SOLD. Total with tax was $3.72. Now what do I do with it?
I do have a question. The head badge is stamped 1510. I know this is the 151st day of a year ending in 0, like 1980 or 1990. On front fork it has the little swing arm things that server as "lawyer lips" similar to my 1990 Schwinn High Plains MTB. Does this most likely make this LeTour a 1990?
Update: Upon further review at trfindley.com it's definitely a 1980 model and Jean-Claude Killy thinks it rocks.

Well, if Jean Claude likes it, so do I. So all you were looking for was a $3.72 discount to get you to move, your easy.
Le tours are nice bikes, a bit heavy, but indestructible. Nice find.

I bought this Sekai 4000 at a thrift store in Palm Springs, Ca. for $35.00. I am a newbie to road bikes and my original intentions were to convert it to a single speed but I think I will leave this bike stock since it seems to have almost all of the original parts. I am not sure of the year, the serial number is M1C00832. Could someone tell me a little more about this series? Thanks, GPecker- La Quinta, Ca.
