License plate says AZ. Hopefully not near me. I be jealous.
|
Yes AZ. And I am sure they were by the same person because of the seats. I am going to keep these and we do not see anything like this usually either.

Okay here's the first and one of the best deals I have ever gotten on anything, including a bike.
Motobecane Super Mirage (the Bikes Direct one that everyone rags on) about a 25lb bike supposedly CroMo, but with Shimano Sora Flight Deck components. I have never had a bike with finger shifters before and this thing is fun to ride. Came without tires and tubes, so... the bike was only $30. And it came with a vintage Jeunet french Frame and another old beater Motobecane vintage frame for free. |
Pretty nice shape and for $0.00 I can't complain about a little surface rust on the non-painted steel surfaces. Will clean and tune it up for my girlfriend (or sell it in the spring if she doesn't like it...either way works for me).

^^^ Congrats!! There's no mixte like a free mixte...Enjoy!

I got this for $0 last week, just got around to posting it. Not sure what I'll do with it, maybe sell the frame and keep the brakes? Surprisingly there's no play in those Weinmann bushings. A little polish, and they'll be good to go:D.,,,,BD
I'm still not sure how they got those cranks on what you'd think was a cottered spindle? I haven't looked real close to see if it's running some strange setup.... Also the wheels look like late 70's Schwinn Le Tour Tourist, guessing by the steel rims, Schwinn freewheel, and large flange hubs. The pie plate also looks very Schwinn. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/DSCN0115.jpg |
^^^ A couple more reflectors there Dued and you'll be good to go!!! :roflmao2: Seriously though, that looks like some good cannibal meat to me...good find. :)
|
I'm sure that at least the BB spindle was changed. Perhaps the cups were changed, too. It would be insane to try to put a square hole crank on a round spindle.

Well, I was bummed out when I found out I missed a Cannondale racing bike at my favorite thrift store yesterday, by about 10 minutes....
But I just picked up a 2002 Trek 1000 off Craigs List, in a 52cm size. OK, it is definitely not vintage. It came as a package, with four extra tires, a nice Jersey, tools, bag, bike rack, etc. Will make a nice bike for my wife, or move to another home. Bike needs nothing. I always liked the orange color of the 2002 model (I have a blue and silver 2005 in my size). http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2733/...21493384_o.jpg |

(Next time though please provide drive side pictures) |
I found these 2 at the thrift store. Intersting in that the Men's bike was free because the tires are flat but the mixte was $20. They were obviuosly brought in together because each had the bars wrapeed in electrical tape.
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...etze/027-1.jpg Nishiki Century, (47cm) maybe a keeper for my 10 year old daughter. http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...etze/030-1.jpg Nishiki Century also a 47cm. It was a good week, I also found an Atala that need some work at the same thrift store. http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...etze/013-2.jpg |

LOL. Its probably gaffa taped on. 'Nothing a bit of solder won't fix'. Great find but if you get hit on that thing the driver will have NO excuse.
|
Nothing too fancy but I saved these two from the dump last year.

I looked at the BB, and it looks like there's no lockring, and the cup on that side is screwed all the way in to about flush. I still don't know what they did? Do these have wider
BB shells than English thread spindles?,,,,BD |
As usual, Sheldon has the answer:
"French bottom bracket cups usually have thinner walls than Japanese ones, so the bearing ridges on the spindles are farther apart. If you use a standard Japanese spindle, the adjustable cup won't be able to screw in far enough to snug up the bearings, or if it does, it will sink into the bottom bracket shell so that you won't be able to install the lockring. " |

Hay in the future take your pictures from the drive side...we like to see the cranks and derailleurs. |
Couldn't get in contact with someone on craigslist...so my roommate and I went to a bike store we passed by earlier, but they don't sell used bikes. But the employee who was repairing a bike was nice enough to tell us where the Salvation Army store was...and that's where I got the Schwinn Le Tour II for $50 :P (was 69.99, but the employee offered $50...pretty cheap for being in SoCal)

Picked up yet ANOTHER Raleigh Super Course this morning at the flea market. Pics in a while. It's pretty rough 1978 model, but any forged drop vintage Raleigh is worth saving IMHO. Pics in a while.,,,,BD
Was $25 and had a missing barcon. It has the base, but not the lever. Good thing I destroyed a base getting it out of a handlebar a few months ago. Now I have a set again:-):D |

Keep it , Enjoy it. -A |
