Another small road bike gets a new lease on life with the chance to thrill a coed. I fished this little Centurion Sport DLX out of CL on New Year's Day. As received, it was in tatters and needed a complete tear-down and overhaul. Cables, housings, tape, tires, brake levers, shifters, and saddle were either missing or unusable. I ripped it down to the frame, cleaned all the parts, rebuilt all the bearing parts, and re-assembled.

I fought with this for a while too. Unfortunatly, there are 3 parallel "zig-zag" gouges just to the left of center from where someone (might have been me, not sure though) didn't loosen the clamp enough when removing the ram horns. My choice was either to have it stare at me during every ride and slowly eat away at my soul, or run an extra 2 inches of bar tape on both sides...

I think you need to start including pictures of the coed's. :D

Mount a bike computer there?

Here a few things I have picked up recently. Panasonic Tourist 3 speed, Schwinn Le Tour 4 (had trashed wheels which are gone and some parts are already off for cleaning) and finally an old 80's Mongoose mountain bike frame set. The Mongoose has eyelets for racks and fenders front and rear, low rider eyelets on the fork and 18" rear chain stays so it should build up into a nice touring set up.

Triumph 3-speed, 23" frame. Craigslist find, was listed as "Bike." I stumbled upon it by accident. Guy said best offer, I offered $20 and he said take it:

Paint is in pretty good shape, only a little rust on the chrome. 73 8 SA hub, 36/36 spoking, Endrick rims.

I went back to the same thrift store where I got that saddle a couple days ago- I got out of work early today and decided to swing by- and found a vintage black Silca pump with a Campy pump head! It even works, surprisingly. For $3.50 I would have just been happy to have it fit my bike (which it also does, beautifully). It makes me really glad I didn't give in to eBay and buy one for $30 plus shipping.
I'd post pics, but they're too big to put on here and I can't figure out how to make them smaller.

I've got my little vintage road bike for now. It's a 50cm and feels a little too big, but with a really short stem and low seat it's alright. I cobbled this one together almost a year and a half ago when I couldn't find a small men's road bike, even a crappy one, for less than $200 on the Bay Area Craigslist. When I find the right bike in the right size, I will retire this one- though I'll probably have to break it down and sell it in parts, because I can't stand the thought of anyone riding this bike as I built it. It just feels terribly, terribly wrong...

Two pickups today. First, a Trek 800 MTB, typical thrift store price. I can't believe I picked up another MTB...

The second was a better find, a 1986 Peugeot Iseran Mixte. Bike was in great shape, bought it from the original owner, who threw in the original catalog and owners manual. Told me he bought it for his wife new, and she never rode it. He had the dealer swap out the original drops with upright bars.

Gianni Motta Personal 2001r with some pantographed parts and 50th anniversary shifters. Most parts would be mint or near mint if it wasn't for some genius cops who convinced the previous owner it would be a good idea to have them engraved in case the bike got stolen. Most of you would think I'm crazy to pay this kind of price for a flipper , so I won't tell.

Pictures of the bikes as I got it (computer and plastic bar tape removed though) , needs to be cleaned.

Miyata 610 - $30 Craigslist find. Paint is a little scratched. Looks like its all original. Needs tires and tape. Hopefully I can find a touch-up paint color at the auto parts store.

Picked up a 1986/86 world sport today on ebay - local pick-up at a thrift store price. $44.99. A real steal (or should i say 'steel') in SoCAL. of course the handlebars are not original - but i purchased it for a friend who will get a lot of use out of it.

Major score for $30. The Miyata is on the "official" list of touring bikes. That price is a "serious" bargain for that bike.

For $20 you got yourself a great winter project , and one that you can use now- (It's nice to have a Stumpjumper MTB like that).. .
I suspect the Miyata is more than a high ten frame with Chrome and dropouts like that. I would look at the steerer for any trace of Tange markings.

I think it is at lest partly hi ten because I can see the seam in the head tube. I pulled all the parts off of it today and noticed that it didn't have the lock nut for the headset. I will be at the second hand bike shops tomorrow trying to find a matching lock nut. :( These parts are going on another bike I have that I want. I am trading the frame to one of the local used bike shops for maybe a campy lock nut. lol probably use the fork for a make shift truing stand for now. It really doesn't fit on that bike. It would have to be a very low profile headset to fit. The stump jumper is very small. I will fix it up and find a short rider for it. It seems to be all there but tires rim tape, cables/housing, and chain. 20$ and it should be back on the road and making someone happy.

I posted this in the CL Finds sticky, but none of you would save me from it. So ... I was forced to pick up this 80's Specialized Sequoia sport touring bike. It's equipped with some very nice components and at 60cm weighs in at 23.75 lbs as pictured. It is in near mint condition, save for a few unfortunate scrapes suffered during storage. The original owner claims it was ridden fewer than 200 miles.

Well I haven't posted anything here for a long, long, time but had to post this one. 1971 Raleigh Grand Prix with everything original except for the saddle (Wrights W3N that I sold on EBAY) and the ribbed cable housings. Other than that beautiful shape and off to CL. Nice Carlton Hoods
