I almost passed this by... I always look over while commuting a heavily travelled road on the way home to see if the thrift store has any "vintagy" bikes out front. I actually pulled because I thought I saw something with the Celeste color, but it turned out to be a Roadmaster. But right next to it was this (I believe) 1974 Sprite. Some parts have been swapped out. I believe it shouldn't have drop bars. And the Shimano Tourney RD is certainly out of place. But it has the original Sturmey Archer wheelset and is in very good condition! At 60cm it may be a tad too big for me though. Nice find anyway, even if it wasn't the Bianchi I was dreaming of...

Shogun Samurai I picked up yesterday and flipped today. I like the rear stays. It rode wonderfully and I would have kept it if I could have made it fit.

There's some nice Shoguns on this page.

More bikes please. Four of them, one Weird Raleigh sport that makes me cunfused one random CCM girls bike and two never ones, that nice shiney red one is a Tim horton's 40's anaversary bike from roll up the rim to win. It was garbage picked! that weird hyprid in the back is actualy full suspention? I findthat abit weird.

that Raleigh has a 1978 rear hub and plastic leavered shifter but the front wheel is from an older one and the frame itself says made in england on it, plus it has frame pump mounts. I didn't think the late 70's ones had those. I think this Raleigh might of had a strange life

Holy cow Sixty Fiver ! That is the most beautiful tandem I've seen and a fitting reward for your services. (Have you reckoned how you will store it once you take possession?)

It is a rather beautiful bike and is in very good condition and everything runs out very smoothly... these were sold by the thousands in the seventies and do not garner much love from serious tandem riders as they are rather lightweight and not as refined as other tandems in that their parts are all standard, or as standard as French bikes can be, and believe the stock wheels were rather inadequate.

But I can build more than adequate wheels... :)

Serviced the brakes last night as the housings and cables needed replacing and set up the rear brakes so they are now properly synched up... the stopping power is rather excellent and the bike can do mad skids.

The standover and reach are fine as it is set up now but with the stoker bars installed the saddle height would be far too high for me so will be looking at fitting a lower mount on the seat tube.

We are looking at getting a custom built tandem in the near future but should have fun with this and gives me a bike to loan out to people who would like to explore tandem riding.

I also know a young couple who would really like this bike so will offer it to them to use as much as they like... my friend is blind and cannot ride solo and they could use a nicer tandem than what they have now.

I would REALLY go grab this one if I still lived in Houston. Oh well, one of you Southeast TX guys go grab it.:-)

Nice!:D I'd buy it just for the nice condition arabesque alone..

Sixty Fiver 05-25-10 01:10 PM

Yep... it is a mixte frame tandem.

bane 05-25-10 02:18 PM

Wow, I've never seen seat stays like that before. Very cool Shogun.

Glennfordx4 05-25-10 03:43 PM

Wow I went through a long dry spell but now the flood gates have opened and I am drowning LOL. Picked up five today and the cost is repairing the front brake cable on a Haro Del Ray.
Everything I got needs the routine service work, tires, tubes, cables and chains the whole sha-bang,but still a great deal.

The Last one, which I think is the best even though it needs the most work. This is the best touring setup I have right now. I really like this bike and it will fit me,looks like I need to add on to my garage sooner then I thought.

Tandem TERROT dans une vieille grange bretonne...

fiataccompli 05-25-10 04:22 PM

that tornado is exactly the frame i'm building up a 'rat rod' kinda 26"er out of a recent haul. That's an odd frame for Schwinn....great score all around. Love the Galaxy...

and, here's my recent catch...mid-80s Murray "Touring Series" 3-speed...fetched from the shed in a co-worker's folks' back yard. Kind of a shame, it's pretty much perfect so obviously wasn't used. i think i'm gonna graft the running gear with one of the '50s/60s cruiser frames i have & build something fairly useless but fun with the pieces....

just sealed the deal on this beauty. needs the rear wheel rebuilt and a tune up but what a deal!

and a couple of weeks ago i got this holdsworth as well:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4049/...befb8a73_o.jpg

it's been a great month :)

lukasan 05-26-10 02:49 AM

The orange one looks great! I think it would look even greater with a brooks leather saddle.

jtgotsjets 05-26-10 07:10 AM

The holdsworth?

Am I really missing something or doesn't it have a Brooks already?

(I'll be really impressed if you identified that leather saddle as some other brand from that size picture).

Chris_in_Miami 05-26-10 07:23 AM

Great finds cobrabyte! Was that Ciocc on one of the FL craigslist boards recently? I recall seeing a very reasonably priced one in the last week or so...

cobrabyte 05-26-10 08:50 AM

thanks! yes the ciocc was up for sale by a guy that lives 10 blocks from me so I grabbed it moments after I saw the ad :)

the holdsworth has a wrights saddle on it. It's actually really comfortable so I doubt I will be shelling out the $$ for a brooks, though I was considering it until after a few rides and realizing the wrights is fine and doesn't need to be swapped out.

Yeah I have/had a lot of Schwinns but none with that frame design. I think I am going service it clean the chrome and return it back to him with his Haro because he really wants 2 bikes and I think he would like this when I am done with it. I was riding it around last night the way it is and it rides nice and smooth with the big tires,if he doesn't want it after I am done then it will stay in my collection for anybody to use.

For those who like these, seriously nice bike.... a "keeper" no matter how much work it may need. Brooks B-17, Suntour Cyclone, F&R racks.... should clean up nicely (I've been dropping stuff in a bucket of CLR lately) ... easy color to touch-up, too!!!

Really nice catch!!!

Many happy miles to you and the Dawes!

Now... if she was only a few cm smaller... I can stand over the frame and the position up top is very nice but fitting a stoker bar in the usual place will not be possible.

I am doing some bike related consulting and bike related work for an upcoming play and this bike will be used in it and afterwards it is mine to keep.

I am so jalous!! Very nice bike!!

Grim 05-26-10 02:58 PM

Found one for my little one yesterday. Decent shape Novara 10speed mountain bike with 20 inch tires. She's loving it but still has a little growing to do before she is ready for it. Says REI on it so easy $50 flip when she out grows it. Just needs some cleaning and a lube. Tires are great, has hardly any miles.

dykim90 05-26-10 04:44 PM
