Saved Sekai 2400 Some info please
On my way home today I saw a guy rolling an old bike out to the street. Turned out to be an old Sekai 2400 series road bike. S/N Y6A1125
Looks like somebody converted it to flat bars by chopping up the stock drops. Stem has been changed to offer a more upright ride. The components are all over the place so I'm not sure what's stock or not, maybe somebody can help me out. Frame is TANGE Infinity CR-MO with decent lug work. not sure on the fork. Crank is a Sugino GT 48/40. FD is an Exage 300LX attached to a Suntour Power Control thumbie and my guess is that this set up isn't stock. Also it looks way too high on the frame. I thought the exage line was usually found on mountain bikes. The RD is a Suntour Cyclone 7000 attached to a Suntour Accushift thumbie 7 speed with switchable friction/index modes, set on friction right now. From poking around the web, I see that the Cyclone 7000 can do index so I'm wondering why it's set for friction. According to info over at DISRAELI GEARS site the Cyclone 7000 dates in 87 and was somewhat dodgy as far as index shifting goes so maybe it doesn't like index with the 6 speed cluster on the bike right now. The rear cluster is a sixer but I don't know yet what brand or if it's a FH or FW. Probably try to have a look tomorrow. Possibly the shifters are stock to the bike and were just moved up on to the bars from the stem (see pics). Brakes are Shimano 105's front and rear with mountain style levers up on the bar. Rims are UKAI alum 27's with Sunshine hubs. The bike's in decent overall shape but needs cleaned and serviced and I can do that myself. Not sure on year or value but the idea of keeping it flat bar with a decent set of real bars or possibly a set of moustache bars sounds interesting. What do you think? http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...ai/sekai_1.jpg http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...ai/sekai_2.jpg http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...ai/sekai_3.jpg http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...ai/sekai_4.jpg http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...bizarrebar.jpg http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...ai/sekai_5.jpg http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...ai/sekai_6.jpg |

From last week. A 1991 Trek 750 Multitrack with cantis. Lugged, double butted True Temper AVR tubing; frame made in Waterloo. Suntour XCE, although the original Suntour shifters were replaced with gripshifts.

Be glad the shifters were swapped. They were horrid. You would have to shift past the gear you wanted then down shift to get it to center. The Geometry on those does well with a drop bar conversion. |

One sad sack of a Dave Scott Expert Centurion Ironman. It is in horrendous shape. :( Seat post and stem stuck. Rust in multiple spots the 105 Group is missing the rear brake. At this point about all I can be sure is salvageable is the bars cranks, brakes and maybe the rims.
Now the other score I have no idea what it is beyond it is a Raleigh. I bought it from the widow of its owner. She told me her husband used it at college. He is British and brought the bike to the US. It is a miss mash or parts. Frame has been repainted but I see some white in the chips. 27 inch wheels. The front is a convex Weimann I believe is original. Both hubs are high flange Campy Records with oil ports. Rear rim is a M40 Mavic that is an obvious replacement. Frame feels light. The seat stays do not wrap over. No chrome on the drops. The Drops are Campy. Has a right side headlight braze on on the fork blade. Super Mighty crank that I do not think is original nor is the 600 arabesque RD and the standard 600 FD and Suntour power shifts. It rides perfect and recently serviced. saddle bag had several Brooks branded tools in it. Headlight had a full charge and ready to go. Not sure how long since he had last rode it and didn't want to pry. Probably start another thread to try to figure out what model this is. I think I want to restore it. I think it may be a older Super course or Professional. |
It kind of reminds me of a Super Course? Are there teardrop(roughly) cutouts in the three main lugs? If so it could be a 80-81 model, which are VERY nice. Forged drops says it's decent quality at any rate.,,,,BD
EDIT: Oops didn't see the Campy drops notation. Move on up the line from a Super Course then. It's something better than an SC for sure! |
Any where to decipher the SN? 166805 is on the BB but no letters like Retro Raleigh says there should be.
It has a center pull bridge on the seat stays like most of the super courses but the campy drops with the hanger on them . Lugs do not have the cut outs. Seat stays are cut off at a sharper angle then most. |
Grim, is that a drillium seat post?

Thats the second sports like that, it`s the same as my old one, i`ve had two both taller, the brown one I have that I posted is also tall they come for sale here offten or if your like me I get mine free or next to nothing just like this.
So I just got home, warmed up my oven put ma pizza in it then as I went to go take it out of the oven I seen this in my yard, wasn`t there before the pizza. not sure what a velo sport is but this ones a franken bike. lots of neat parts though. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/100_2172.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/100_2173.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/100_2174.jpg Has some issues but it`s a freebie! lol |
I saw a velo sport touring bike at a garage sale last saturday, quality wasnt nearly as good as that, just a cheapo.
appears like someone took an interesting build route with that thing. Probably had "aero" downtube shifters at one point, I'd be interested in seeing a close up of what sorta cable stops were cobbled together to get the barcons to work! |

Got the frame and most of the other parts from a friend, wheels came off the Trek 720 I picked up last year (5 speed Helicomatic) and the rear derailleur came off a junk bike I picked up from outside a LBS dumpster. It is going to be a local 'Pay it forward' ---
I still need to put a padded seat on it - vinyl on steel just does not feel real good -- and some people complain about Brooks ;). Took it for a test ride tonight, and it feels like a fun neighborhood/path rider. Smooth and solid. |

This just went out the door tonight. Another City Girl squeals with delight and takes home the bike of her dreams. I never get tired of it. :)

Look what $15 gets you. This was missing the RD and needed to be cabled and cleaned, but it came out nice for a low-end bike. Now all I have to do is match it up with Frankenstein and I'm all set.
66/67cm Centurion : http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...aleto-66cm.jpg |
Neighbours were cleaning up the yard after a renter moved out and there was a pile of bikes that are destined to go to the crusher so they said take what I wanted.
Not much there save for a 70's Raleigh Lenton Sports that will need some TLC but should provide someone with some cheap and reliable transportation and one crappy x mart road bike bike had some very nice Shimano SL AD24 (Adamas) top tube shifters that look to be in great shape. Have not seen many of these in my life but then, they were not produced for very long and were not excessively popular. |

You need to post a video of your test ride... |
bbm - Have only seen a handful frames that were this tall an most are custom made... would almost suspect this was a special order as well.

I just picked these two up on Tuesday. The Nishiki I am going to clean up and give it a tune up and use it has my primary bike till I find something a little nicer or figure out what I want. The skyline bike I am unsure what to do with it. If I can get the parts and make it a fixed gear/single speed bike cheap. If I can put it together CHEAP I'll make it my commuter bike something I am not to worried about. If anyone has any pointers on how to put one together cheap that be great. And yes I have read the Sheldon Brown article and coutless others. I've already had the Nishiki out and about in the neighborhood yesterday before it started raining again. It won't stop long enough for me to get out and take it apart and clean it up and such. It road pretty well but some new tires are getting put on this weekend. If anyone has any info on these two or what not let me know.

Haven't yet desided wether this is to be a flibber or my new trainerbike (instead of the Seuz...) Crappy pic... Sorry for that, but anyway I got this bike today. Saw an advertisement on the swedish "craiglist" about a Crescent from -72. Crappy cellphonepic and not too much information. I thought, I'll give it a shot. Took the train and found out it was in a rather rough shape. Rusty, imovable gears and such. I managed to put the price down some 15 Euro and we had a deal. Then, while paying i found that it was equiped with both Weimannbreakes and Reynolds 531-tubing :D Score! 75 Euro :) Need a hell lot of cleaning and greaseing though! EDIT: The pic didn't whant to work... |
