Any indication of the tubing used for this frame? (Katakura Silk) I agree with others this Silk is very nice. The reason I am asking is I have a very similar one in Red I am currently building up and I suspect Tange 1 tubing although my fork is different than yours...the braze-on's on mine are on the front of the dropout and I have a water bottle mount on the bottom of the downtube as well.....great looking bike though and I had mine built before and the reason I am redoing it is because the ride was too good! I needed to upgrade the components some to appropriately spec it out the way it deserves to be built because it'll be a keeper for me.

Not sure of the year, I'm going to say mid-late 50's though. (Usually 1957 in conversation.)
A Murray Challenger bicycle. From what I've been able to find, it's no Black Phantom, but, seeing how it's been stored away in a shed since the early 60's, I feel it's time to get her looking good again. :D Upon getting it home: http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...S/100_0351.jpg Current Day: http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/k...S/100_0372.jpg |
It's correct in the first pic, backwards in the second. You can see the difference.

Some cheap campy down tube stops came up on eBay, the guy sent me a pair for $20 shipped (same as if I had been the only bidder on two of them).
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_I...0/IMGP0283.JPG From what I've seen these sell for, the disorganization on eBay really cuts both ways. |
Nice Waterford. Looks like the owners name got painted over? The front of the top tube. Chris

I got an 89 or 90 Schwinn traveler. Was abandoned at a park and ride. Both wheels tacoed, frame and fork trashed. Called the local pd, said that they couldn't do anything. 30 minutes later an officer cut off the old u lock, then nodded and left. Decent shape exage group. Gonna put the levers, seatpost and binderbolt on the fuji. Keep the 7sp dt's for a different project.

Found a little something that says "Miyata" and "One Thousand"... that fits.
Looks like a very low mileage bike, all original as far as I can see, looks to be an '83 what with the Cyclone Mk2, bar cons, Gran Compe brakes and 630 touring wheel set. Let me repeat this... it fits. Think I should drop a c note this dusty old thing ? :D |

You must have very good bike karma, congrats!
The Miyata fits her like a glove. She is a happy woman because the bike needs nothing but someone to ride it. I am happy... and I can always find another (and do any needed work) and already have a few more than decent touring bikes. And... I can always build myself a new touring bike should the need arise. |
I bought the parts stash of a local flipper that had to get out of the business with an impeding apartment move coming in a few weeks. I bought all of his spare parts which was bins and bins of parts, 35+ wheels, 2 framesets, box of brand new tires, housing and bar tape as well as two repair stands (he kept one and the rest of his tools). I have been going through the misc. parts to cherry pick out some of the nicer stuff to sell, but with this much stuff it is going to take a week or two to really figure out everything I have here. The flipper also has 40+ bikes completely overhauled and ready for sale, and there might be a chance I end up buying those as well.

Since I didn't jump on the Miyata I decided to take advantage of a sale and pick up a new 23,000 btu shop heater... :)

Sixty: Look at it this way, that 1000 was your's to give away. Someone you care about is happy and you get the satisfaction.

My LBS was given a set of vintage Campag road pedals, and since they know I am a loyal C&V disciple, I found myself walking away from a spoke purchase with a free set of C-record track pedals. They look like they were well-cared for, and I couldn't be more pleased.
This model, with toeclips. http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.as...m=109&AbsPos=5 |

On that note, scored some Stronglight cranks that just happened to have some beautiful Lyotard Marcel Berthet pedals attached to them today. :D |
We went to a small party this evening and the host ended up giving me some spare parts. A pair of black Suntour Cyclone pedals with Mira clips and YFC straps, a Superbe FD sans bracket, and a 26.6 Sugino SP-KC seat post. Too bad it appears someone used a pipe wrench on the seat post. But the FD looks mint and the pedals still spin buttery smooth.

My best would be a Keith Bontrager custom built 1 owner mountain bike before he did the mono stay design. He got it when Keith was building bikes at home in Cali. And it fit me. He was going to donate it to Boys and Girls club but wanted it checked out first, but it was strange because he hinted that he would sell it. So I called him back later that day and asked if he was serious about selling. He asked me if I would trade him a bike for his. So I had just built up a Trek hybrid bike and we traded bikes, $100 rebuild. I was sad though because when he picked it up he realized he had lost his Bontrager custom touring bike in his travels. Bike complete with all original Specialized wheels, cranks, shimano thumbs and ground control tires. Oh and the 2" rise bar and stem painted to match.

Edmonton, man. You can't have too many BTUs there, I wouldn't think.

Got this little beauty yesterday from a friend who rescued it from his grandmothers basement, sadly it looks like it had some poor storage for a time as all the chrome is shot :(
Fuji Special Road Racer, http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04031.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04046.jpg It did however come with this Belt Fujita saddle in amazing condition although in dire need of leather treatment, it almost seems like it was never broken in from new. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04049.jpg |

I bet that chrome will polish up to as good as new.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04040.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04043.jpg It's just amazing to me that all the chrome could be so badly pitted and peeling but the leather saddle is virtually like new barring a couple small spots of rash. I've got another Fuji with the chrome in nearly the some condition, is the Fuji chrome fragile compared to some others? |
Whoa - That is in pretty rough shape.
I would still give it an OA bath to see what I was dealing with and possibly entertain a repaint |
