Whoa - That is in pretty rough shape.
I would still give it an OA bath to see what I was dealing with and possibly entertain a repaint

Oh, Trust me I'll give it my best effort :)

Nice! It is probably a '74 +/- model. I had one just like it, except with a larger frame, "back in the day" when it was just a "used" bike and not C&V. You could probably paint the fork crown. How about a couple of those $10 Panaracer Paselas from Nashbar?

Not a huge find, but I just picked up a Matching set of His and Hers Red 84 Schwinn Worlds for $40. Got them at a yard sale from the original owners and they are in GREAT shape. Not a single scratch on either of them. . . Gonna be an easy flip.

I got a full set of Magura hydraulic rim brakes from a friend. The front is totally functional, the rear is in parts. I already have a functional Magura rear in use, so now I have a full set with some parts to keep 'em both alive. Most importantly though, included was the much needed "brace" limit the stay flex when the brakes are applied. It works and looks awesome. These are seriously powerful rim brakes!

I've only posted a few times, but am always lurking admiring all your bikes.

My husband, who is new to the "bike thing", picked up two bikes over the last couple weeks. I've taught him well :thumb:

The 1st is a 1985 Trek 460 in pretty good condition, needs a little work, then it's going to my Dad. He got it for $50 at a thrift store.

The second is a 1971 (according to the S#) Peugeot UO8 in near perfect condition. It was filthy, but after it got cleaned up it has maybe 5 scratches in the paint and that's it. Has all of it's original parts including the leather Norex saddle and working frame pump. He got it for $50 from the original owner who bought it some 36+ years ago and didn't ride it much.
He wants to keep it, so it's been a good bike to teach him all the basics like changing cables and cleaning bearings ect.

I will get some pictures in just a bit.

That Peugeot is nice :) of course I'm partial to yellow too!

auchencrow 03-07-11 05:50 PM

Those are in grrreat shape, VintageBikeGirl. Even the black anodizing looks 100% on Trek, and I can't remember when I saw such a clean U08!

SteveSGP 03-07-11 06:30 PM

That Uo8 is stunning!

Well I bought this today because it was really cheap. Was advertised as a trek 720 frame (!) but it turned out to be a trek 311 (oddball ishiwata magny x tubing) but I bought it anyway because it looks cool. No idea what I'm going to do with it :)

picked up this tiny trek 1000 as seen for $20 the other day. Some midget is going to dig it the most.

My son pulled this out of an alley the other day. It was semi buried in a bunch of other junk. Looked like someone was cleaning out their garage...

Ishiwata is pretty good stuff. They, as did most tube manufacturers, make quite a range of product. Difficult to tell much of a difference in the ride between one or another, and I've ridden a number of steel bikes.

A buddy of mine gave this Itoh, havn't found much about it. It may be a little to big for me, if so I will donate it the CO-OP. The rear hub is looked tight, it's raining right now, so i can't mess with it until tomorrow. It has the seatpost that is adjusted on top, stainless steel frame with aluminum lugs.

That's a nice find. Swap out the seat and bars and that's a very respectable cross bike.

Just found a very shiny Sugino Maxy crank set with a single 42 tooth drillium chain ring at the co-op.

Coolest thing is that it is 152 cm which will fit my daughter's bike perfectly when I upgrade the crank set.

I love those bikes. Others hate them. I'll gladly take another. :D

I'm actually turning it into a dedicated commuter. Leaving the bar. But the seat had to go, for a more proper saddle... :D

Nice score! I'm about halfway done with rebuilding mine. YOu got a great deal. I've ridden a friend's, and they're a sweet ride. Not to mention that those are the nicest looking derailleurs ever made.
